Planning to drop one in the mustang(street car doesn't get raced). The engine is making between 350-400TQ. Which looks like its more than the rating.

So what do I do to make it stand up to 400? And what exactly breaks on these once you pass the rating.

Also if I swap the gears from a 4cyl T5 to a V8 one will it decrease he rating?

Right now i'm looking into getting a 92-93 302 T5(rated@300TQ) and getting it rebuilt.

Is there any place where I can get a kit that will make it stand up to 400?

Thank you! I tried using searching and goggling but I came up with no info.

g force sells an upgraded gear set for the t5.
i have found if you use a stock replacement clutch for a fox mustang it wont grab hard enough to brake the trans on a power shift. also a good aftermarket shifter like the pro 5.0 will keep you from over shifting.

    awesome!

Which one would be best for me?
synchronized, dog ring straight cut and helical cut dog ring

The car is not a drag car, just a fun street car. It currently had 4.11 with 28" tires.

Synchros for the street Dog rings are for slamming gears at the track.

Astro performance is another company that makes kits similar to the gforce kits and they are similarly priced.

of course for a little more you can buy a reman A-5 (their beefed up version of the T5) and its just ready to be put in the car.

    http://www.astroperformance.com/adv...6&subcategories_id=218&inc_subcat=1&x=26&y=12

As a note on both the gforce and astro t5 gearsets utilize a different clutch then the standard t5 10 spline clutch they use a 26 spline 1 1/8" input shaft so make sure to take that into consideration also.

With the price of the gforce upgrades, your better off buying a brand new Tremec transmission.

Yeah you can buy a new TKO 500 off of summit for $2095 with the 10 spline input shaft (holds 500 foot pounds torque average hence the 500 in the name)

    http://www.summitracing.com/search/...ec-TKO-500-Manual-Transmissions/?autoview=SKU

the TKO 600 is only $100 more with the 26 spline input shaft, and 31 spline output shaft.

    http://www.summitracing.com/search/Brand/HURST-DRIVELINE-CONVERSIONS/Make/FORD/Input-Spline-Quantity/26/Transmission-Type/Tremec-TKO-600/?Ns=Rank%7cAsc

notice there are two different TKO 600 they have a different OD ratio one is aimed primarily at road racing(0.82:1 OD) the other is designed more for street/strip use.

This will probably require a little more cutting of the tranny tunnel then the trimming most people have to do with the T5 though, to get the larger top in. (of course if you want to go that route and you are luckey you can find a used/NOS tko or tremec 3550 on ebay in the $1000 - $1500 price range)

There are only one or two people that have installed a tremec in their car. So they would know better then I do what is required, maybe they could chime in and tell you whats involved with a tremec install I am a little curious to find out that info myself.

Yeah I called them and I was shocked at the price, I thought it was going to be between $350-800.

    Boy was I WRONG!

I'm not really looking for horsepower, I just know it will make it.

The engine is just just something me and my buddies trew together using left over parts.

It had 165 AFRs that had a turbo port job(they were supposed to go on my drag car, but it made enough power on the stock heads)

Bottom end was supposed to go into my brothers NA Build, but he lost interest and gave it to me. its got 10.5 pistons, eagle rods, bored .30 over.

Cam was donated from my buddy who blew up his motor, its a custom grind. I have the card somewhere but its around 310 .625lift 108* LSA

Its running right now, and it feels like it has more toque than my drag car does.(i'm uploading a video right now)

But the C4 is not fun at all, especially since it still has the stock torque converter.

I got a lead on a T56 that's suppose to be a viper spec one, so i'll see how that turns out. It's coming out of a wrecked supra though, so that make me weary.

As cool as a T56 would be that would be allot of cutting and modifiying to get a 6 speed front loader stuffed in that tiny little tunnel.
So be careful with the adaptors you would have to buy to mate that to the engine, the shortening of the driveshaft(both the tremec and the T5 can use the ford racing driveshafts, or the stock with a different yoke) and the work of the tunnel it could get pretty painful in the pocket book.
