    Well, started up the Mav yesterday.....and heard a loud click from under the hood.:mad: Now I am getting this thing ready for the Gathering and Roundup, so just doing routine maintenance. Well, started investigating, and found the #2 exhaust valve had some problems. The locks were gone, so I looked around and found 1/2 the lock sitting on the head, and the other half was jammed in the retainer. Valve tip was a mess, but the rocker was ok..at least I think. The lifter, pushrod and all the rest was ok. Man, I was gonna drive this thing to the Gathering and the Roundup....glad I didn't. I'll be in the truck!!!!! Here are a few pics of the damage.:cry: Sorry the pic of the valve retainer is so bad, but as good as I could get.

    Made those a long time ago for things like this. I can run the car, without getting oil everywhere. Ain't pretty, but they work.:)

    i thought thats what they would be used for.... such as adjusting valves and such. very neat idea :yup:

    Yeah, wanted to bring it up. Just have to work at it for next year. New heads, I'd guess.

    That sucks. Sorry to hear.

    I havent seen a set of those valve covers in decades. Not since the 305 camshaft days.
