Hello! I'm swapping my Brazillian Maverick originally a 2.3 svo to a 351W. I'm about to assembly the engine but before that I tried to put the block with heads and headers togheter in the car and... gess what, PITA! I'm going with the Summit G9031's, GT40 heads and T5 transmission. For that experience I can assume that it's impossible to put it all togheter without some modding to the shock towers/headers, here are some photos
My car specs are 351W block w/ OEM crank OEM rods w/ ARP wave loc bolts Hi volume oil pump Keith Black hyper pistons (0.30) CR is about 10:1 home made ported and polished GT40's Comp 274XE roller 1.6 rocker arms and guideplates performer air gap intake holley 4150 650cfm all parts are new... I'm going with a Dana 44 diff (OEM in brazillian Maverick), 4 wheel disc brake, 18" "StockCar" wheels, GM S-10 front brakes and VW golf rear brakes, F-150 front springs, P.U bushings, KYB Shocks and stock arms Some pics of my car:
When I installed my 351w I cut aprox. 2 " out of each shock tower then covered the hole in 1/4 ' plate steel to make it stronger . Leaving the suspention mounting points. The headers I used were Headman that were made for a first generation Mustang 351W swap . (still a VERY tight fit). With this modifacation I have good acess to my spark plugs and my header bolts . Good Luck
Wow thanks for sharing your project! I knew Mexican Mavericks had Dana 44s but this is the first I'm hearing about the Brazilian ones having them, that's really neat!
Here are some pictures of my 70 with cut down towers. This was done in the late 70's as the car was running in the NHRA B/SM class with a 302w with Cleveland heads. The car has equal lenght headers that were built by Bill Dawson in L.A. sometime ago, and were redone by SPD in Sacramento.
I'm going with a Dana 44 diff (OEM in brazillian Maverick) learn something new everyday!! id like to see the s10 brake setup and i love the wheel choice, think it would look even better with a lower stance IMO
Well, thank you all!! I'll need some help with the shock tower mods, I'm afraid of messing up with the car chassi, anyway, tonight I started stripping the upper part of the suspension out of the car...
About the S-10 front brakes, I used the original discs to make the base for the S-10 discs (don't know if brazillian and US S-10 are identical, probably not), than made the caliper "holding" and made the new holes on the disc...
I'm a bit confused about the shelby drop, I'd like to do it, but do I need to cut the base of the shock tower to drop the upper arm 1"? maybe a pic will explain it better than my bad english
