Another question from a newbie for you guys, I've been attempting to follow the guide to upgrading to a 3g alternator and I have run into a snag after removing the old voltage regulator; Specifically: 1) What is the yellow 'y' wire for in the first picture and where does it get connected? 2) is the green and red wire in my hand the correct wire to connect to the red and green wire (I terminal) on the new alternator? (it is connected into the same bunch of wires running towards the front of the car as the yellow wires) Please disregard the sloppiness of my engine bay and electrical I will tidy up as I get things working correctly and I realize that the fuse needs a holder etc. etc.... Thank you for taking your time to reply and please don't be too harsh
See if this helps. Edit: I would recommend that the yel/wht wire from the regulator get connected at the solenoid with the 6 AWG wire instead of at the rear of the alternator as shown. Better system voltage regulation.
That helps a bit, I'm having more issues with figuring out what the wiring (yellow 'y') is for in the first picture.
1-wire? The yellow wire is the original sense wire that went from the voltage regulator to the solenoid. The equivalent of the 3G's yel/wht. I don't know which end you're showing in your picture.
Ill try to take some better pictures, not too sure if the wiring was modified by the previous owner. (who did some nasty stuff to her).
Then how the hell did this get bumped up? I didn't look at the date, but it was under "new posts" when I found it....weird Oh I get it now, another thread led me here, and I just responded to this, instead of the post that lead me here...DUH....
