OK, little update on a few other threads I posted. Bried background; freeway drive (50 miles), cruising at 65-70 MPH:drive:, NO NOISE, NO MISSING, RUNNING SMOOTH, pull it Summig Racing - ENGINE LIGHT comes on, put her in park it goes off, under load on. All fluids check out fine. Drive her home, pull her in the back garage, drop in a set of gaughes, Temp, Volt, Oil, obviously disconnected and pulled out Temp and Oil sending units. Start her up, Good Temp (160-180), Good Charge, Oil Pressure 40-60, steady. BUT...........ENGINE LIGHT is still flickering. Come on now, what else does this light inform you of or where else is it connected?:bs:

Did you mean you hooked your gauges up AND kept the idiot lights. How would you do that? The idiot lights were connected to both the Temp and Oil "sending units". To install gauges I had to remove thos sending uits and replace them with the gaughe "direct read" units. Unless you actually "tapped" seperated threads in the block to install the gauges I have no idea how you would run both...what am I not understanding here?

Read your trials and tribulations Don....hey, you stuck with it and if your like me you like to work on them, hate when things don't go the way they should, but ....like you....if you sit back, take a break you can attack it one more time. This "Engine Light" flickering when I disconnect the and changed the sending units to gauges got me puzzled....but I am sure either via this forum or after doing some research I will find that the light is connected somewhere else. Anyway, just got back from a "mini cruise".....I enjoy getting asked what year and also at least 1/2 dozen of people who see it tell me they had one (77 Maverick). Parked her, going to the local Casino, play a little cards, get me a Crown over Rocks, Smoke a good cigar...and pop the hood tommorrow....later

sounds like a short circuit to me...

maybe the connections are touching the engine block if they weren't removed or taped up.

    Engine Light "Flickering"

I'm also thinking a "short", :idea:but more so withing the IP panel itself. When I purchased this car the previous owner had a pretty nice sterio system w/Amp put in:bananaman and I have no idea where they searched for or tapped in power...so who knows maybe a short:huh:. Plus the car is over 30 years old, anything can short out after those many years....but with the gauges at least I know how the engine is running which was my main concern:thumbs2:. Since I have you all hear, what are the normal readings:thumbs2: on this 77 Maverick, all stock, automatic, 250 In line 6 cylinder:

    Temp:
    Oil Pressure:

    Thanks.:Handshake

I've had some weird wiring in my lifetime! I had a 442 Cutlass that had a blown fuse on the reverse lights. This caused the " alt " light to come on dim sometimes and flicker sometimes. I went months going nuts with this! One day I found the lights weren't working ( going back to Eastern time in Fall ) checked and replaced the fuse and reverse lights worked fine and no more aggravating "alt " light! The charging system did work properly, even when the light was doing it's dance! Anyway check all your fuses. It may get rid of the light if one is blown!:)

Thinking on the same line:bouncy:......went out and picked up a box of fuses, changed them all.....haven't did the "practice run" :drive:yet, but about to so I will inform everyone of the results.

Hate electrical problems:mad:....you can't see electricity flow...just results, so alot of assumptions:hmmm: when dealing with the electrical flow...take care.
