I know a few Mexican nationals. What do think of the possibility of importing Mavericks? Too much red tape? They have tons of them in Mexico.

Other than the shipping costs, there are 2 agencys that you have to deal with when importing a car and getting it through customs. The EPA and DOT. The EPA says all vehicles imported into the US must meet all the US emission standards that were set in the year that the car was manufactured. The DOT says the car must meet all the safty standards as well as have all the safty equipment that was set in the year of manufacture. Now the good news. One has a waiver of 20 years and the other is 25. I can't remember which was which but as long as its a 79 or older, its just a matter of filling out some paper work and applying for the waivers. Getting it to customs is another thing.

What is not so good mean Gaucho...

Are there any in decent shape enough to restore or are they well used. I think in Mexico they would use them until the fell apart. My friend is from Mexico. Langauge barrier is not a problem. Oh well. With all the Mavericks produced there must be a good number that are maintained and possibly up for sale. The exchange rate is 13:1. So say 500,00 pesos for one. That would be 50.00 US. Not bad. How about the first Maverick only used car lot in USA. :p lol. Anyway. Filling out paper work is not too hard. I have the gift of the blarney and mind like a rusted steel trap. Hmmm...thanks for the tips though. I'll look into it.
