Whay do you say they are too short now? Think its normal for the shocks to limit spring travel.

The bolts at the end of the shock that go through the perch barely clear the perch, and there's certainly not enough room to install the bushing and washer.....but i do have the car on jack stands

You need to have the weight of the car on the front wheels to compress the springs. Do you have ramps?

Or take your jack with a block of wood and slowly raise the lower control arm.

You should be able to install the shocks with the car on the ground, just turn the wheel to the side, so you can get in there.

I admit to being a worrier when it comes to working under cars on jack stands. Seems like it could get kinda unstable when you take the weight off the jack stands and start wrenching on it. I always give the car a good shake before crawling under it.

I had the same problem. I replaced the spring perch and the shocks would not go in the lower arm. I used a floor jack to raise the lower arm and it works.

I agree with the other posts. You need to raise up the lower arm with a floor jack until the shock is through far enough.

Yeah, the shock acts like a travel limiter on these cars. Not the smartest idea Ford ever had.
