So, I joined about 10 months ago because I had a rear end and brake question, but never spent any time here except for that. I never introduced myself as a newbie, but since I have been spending more time here lately I thought this would be a good time. Hi everyone!!! Here is my short story. A few years back(3-4 years) I used to drive a Ford Escort as my daily driver, until one day out of the blue it just died. I decided to start looking for another daily driver because I didn't want to put a lot of miles on my 2001 Mustang SVT Cobra convertible. A buddy of mine had a 76 or 77 Comet and I started thinking it would be nice to get an old school vehicle, something that didn't need smog. I found a '72 Grabber for a really good price and decided that she was mine. It came with a straight 6, but after a couple of months I knew a 302 had to go back in it(there goes my daily driver). The guy I bought it from said it had a 302 but he blew it up and the 6 just dropped right in. A friend of mine named "Mopar Steve" is who I decided to have start building my engine(on a budget). Yes, he is a Mopar guy, but if you saw and heard his '69 Charger then you would understand why I chose him to do it. I asked him to build it so it would compete with my Cobra(but on a budget) which is about 350 horses and 13.5 1/4 mile. The engine has been done and in for a while but it has never been to the track because the whole front end needs to be rebuilt. It sounds killer and definitely has a lot of power, I'm just curious if it would keep up with my Cobra. Anyway, I blew up my trans, so I had another built(C-4 with big billet servo and blue bands). My engine and trans cost more than I thought so that is all that has been done as of now. I have a '77 Versailles that I am planning on using the disc brakes and rear end. I also need to rebuild the suspension, put in new gears, do the interior and body work & paint. It turns out to be alot more expensive than I thought, especially when, yes i'm gonna say it, here it goes, I don't know how to work on cars. I have an older Brother that always did it for me, but I am now learning. I have always liked cars(muscle cars), but just never had the desire to learn how to work on them. Now I'm kicking myself in the butt!!! Anyway, here are the specs. on my '72 Grabber, so tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions. 302 cubic inch engine bore 0.030 over New cam bearings and galley plugs Brass freeze plugs Crank ground .010 - .010 Clevite 77 bearings Keith Black hypereutectic pistons Sealed power, single moly ring set Lunati bracket master II cam and lifters - 284 degree duration .488 lift advanced 4 degrees CompCams dbl roller timing set Edelbrock valve springs Stock rockers Stock heads(valve jobbed and exhausts ported) Summit stage II dual plane intake Summit 650 CFM vacuum sec. carburetor Melling hi-volume oil pump Pertronix electronic ignition MSD blaster coil Ford Cobra valve covers Accel wires Hedman headers Magna Flow exhaust C-4 trans with big Billet servo and blue bands Hughes 2800 stall converter TransGo stage II shift kit B&M megashifter Ford 9" rear end(non-posi)
Hey Bro, dont worry, Ive been working on cars most of my life and I still dont know anything about working on cars. Your off to a good start.
Thanks Resto! On a side note, I will be going to the Post Office in about an hour to get a shipping price.
Welcome from Ocala,Florida...... Your car look great, I would love to hear what it sounds like too....
Thank you! I have two Magna Flow mufflers with no pipes running to the rear of the car and I do have to admit, it sounds pretty darn good.
Thank you! Yeah, I think i've learned quite a bit over the past couple of years. I now wish I would have started a long time ago. Oh well, at least I started. Like you said, "never too old". I am only in my thirties so that's not too bad.
