Versailles or Explorer rear end?

    There's really no point in swapping to rear discs only if you're not going to drive it hard enough to break an 8" rear. They'll never get used enough to justify the cost of a swap.

    It is mainly going to be a street car. I'm hoping for at least 400 horses by the time I am done. I already have the Versailles, so I figured I should use it not only for the brakes, but the 9" posi rear also.

    I agree on the weight :)

    On my Versailles rear, I bought flame cut caliper brackets from Ebay that weld to the tubes - they accept 1985 Chevy C-20 single piston calipers and use front rotors from a Jeep Cherokee that slip over the wheel studs - of course, you lose your parking brake but I'm looking into one for a street rod that comes with a thin rotor built into a 9 inch yoke and uses a small caliper :thumbs2:

    Also on the tall gears- - -deeper gears are available everywhere - mine are 3.89's now with a traction-loc

    That aside, I can tell you from personal experience that a Versailles 9" in a Maverick is overkill. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, especially if you have all the parts, it's an easy swap. Just that for a street car, your 8" is more than enough.

    Thank you, that is an excellent article!
    I got the whole car for $400 if I remember correctly(and it does run). I figured I could use the front and rear disc brakes, 9" rear end, 302 engine(use as a spare or sell it), center console and the wheels are aluminum so they could be recycled. I figured it was well worth the price, so I jumped on it.

    Good score, that was well worth the $400. Sounds like the same thing I did but it was 15 or so years ago now. If you've got a center console in that Lincoln, that means you've also got bucket seats you can use... Are they power?

    I think they are power, but i'm not positive. I actually have bucket seats out of a '96 Mustang that I am planning on using.

    Ok. If they are power, and you're not going to use them, I would be interested in the components that make up the power seat track mechanism.

    The car is sitting at my Stepbrother's Dads house. Next time I go out there I will check to see if they are power. It may be about a month or so though.
