Did a quick search to find that total Maverick & Comet production came to 2,586,675 cars. I believe these are North American numbers. Question is: how many are left? It makes me cringe when I think about how many went to the melters.
Good luck finding any parts in junk yards here. The yards here scrap anything that stays for 2 months without a part purchase to make room. They figure wwith steel prices the way they are, better to sell scrap and free up space for newwer cars.
everything here gets melted..any i did come across a comet that's been sitting for 15 years or more its pretty rotted but underneath wasn't too bad...and the lady had no interest in selling it to me at all, she said it wasn't bothering her that it sat there (she lived in low income housing since i can remember) i just couldn't figure out why she'd rather have it rot away then make some money
Ive seen 4 in yuma 2 are restored and owned by a Co Worker, 1 by a young guy I cant ever seem to contact and 1 by a gentleman who has it on blocks i n his back yard and wont sell.
One of my neighbors owns a '74 250cid and there's a woman who lives somewhere fairly near me with a late Comet 2-door (it's in really good condition too).
There has to be a ton of these cars actually. Even if only 1% of the production number survived to this day, that would be over 25,000 cars left. I know these cars are in other places than the states, but if you figured just the 50 US states and an average of 1% there would be over 500 Mavericks in each state.
Yeah with such low numbers in each state from members here it's hard to imagine more than 3,000 but then so many more of you finding, parting out and crushing them it's got to be higher.
I've seen about 50 of them in the last 4 years. Most, though rolling on the street, in VERY bad condition.
