Lousy start to a Monday morning... girl in a Mazda ran a stop sign RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. For one second time stopped and I knew I was going to hit her. Narrow road with too many cars and I had nowhere to go. But it was an accident. Plain and simple. Old parts listings and labour on metalwork is higher than replacing the plastic on newer cars, so the insurance company has given a high, preliminary estimate at $3000 so naturally they will want to write-off the car. That's not going to happen. If I can source the parts myself they will make a deal and cover the bodywork if I get lower estimates. So, I'll post in classifieds and see if anyone here can help me with the grille and trim pieces. At least it wasn't raining or this would have been REALLY UGLY. And just 2 weeks ago I was thinking of switching bumpers with my other car to put bumperettes on this one since it's a daily driver. This is a good reason to have a later-model car with those massive bumpers that shield the hood and trim from low speed impacts. Whisky...
nope... but insurance will help me out We have ICBC which is a crown corporation. They have collector "rates and plates" but not for a daily driver - only a 2nd car kept in storage. Since I'm not at fault - the adjustor and his manager both looked at it - we talked it over for almost 2 hours and looked at a whole slew of internet ads to evaluate the car's value. I'll agree to doing some of the work since I want it done right without 20 lbs. of bondo. The deal is that if I can cut the estimate in half insurance will help me repair the car. This is also what scares the hell out of me driving it in the winter. After fixing it I want to park this car in my dad's garage and find something else.
If you cut the repair in half, they will fix it? That doesn't sound like a deal. What if they write it off? can you buy it back? Do they brand the ownerships as "Salvage" (They do that here in Ontario.) I'd hold out for a bit of a better deal, but then again I don't know how it works out there.
Wow sorry about your car, glad you are OK. Is it me or does there seem to be quite a few non attentive females that have it out for Mavericks lately....
Here in S Carolina they would total loss that car and offer it back to you for probably around 4 to 7 hundred dollars.at least that's what they did 3years ago for a friend of mine.
I know the feeling! Some jerk hit my car this morning and broke out the grill and emblem, hood trim and a dent in the hood, bumper is off center and the grill support is bent. Bad day, but Hagerty is the best insurance in the business, and they said they would take care of it.
Everyone here is awesome.... After only a weekend I have a whole slew of replies on the trim pieces which is awesome. Shipping is tricky since I'm in Canada and the trim and grille are large and fragile... but it's a great start. "Salvage" and buy back are not options with our insurance company since - I recall - there were charges of 'insider trading' a few years ago. I think the rules changed. It would go on public auction and I would likely never see it again. Now just need the metal and paint estimate. Thanks again to everyone here!
Perhaps you could have all the parts shipped to one of the members in the US. Then make a road-trip to the US and go home with the parts. I have done that for others to help out.
same thing happened to my car.. same side.. no structural damage i think it was 2700$... but i had all the parts to fix it... shhhh
