    Hey all,
I am going to be doing a 351W swap into my 70 Grabber soon and I've been looking over all the posts and stuff about the longtube headers, and frankly they seem more of a pain than anything else for a street car. This is going to be a street car, so shorties will be fine. My question is, has anyone here put shorty headers on a 351W in a Mav and were there any problems? I would like to find some that are decent size and fit nicely. I am planning on shaving the towers.. This car will be lowered a touch and I live on country roads, so long tubes would be scraping all the time... Any suggestions? Thanks!

So far, I`ve never seen any shorty headers that would fit a Maverick with a V-8 at all. :(

mine don't hang down ..there closer to the floor pan then if they was on a 302 car ...i did away with power steering and had to have one tube rebent so the pit arm would not hit it [IMG]

Hedman #88650 are shorty headers for a 351W into an early Mustang. You might give them a try.I'm running the long tube versions,#88660,in my 351W '62 Falcon. I know it's not a Maverick, but close.

65-66 Stang headers usually are Maverick listed too, so I would think they would be okay.
I was going to point those Heddmans out to you as well.
They are only 1.5" primarys, if memory serves.

I have Hedman 88400 (shorties) on my 73 Mav with a 302. They work good, but they are for a 302, so there would probably be some block fitment issues with a 351. I'll check out the 88605. Thanks!

as far as block fitment issues ..ones from the 302 will bolt right on the 351w ..only problem would be ...where the collector ends

I know that the 302 headers will bolt on the 351W, but some Mustang guys have had problems with the 302 headers hitting the block somehow because of the extra height of the 351. I guess I'll just have to experiment and see. I think I'll try the 88650 first. Thanks.

Hey Corbin, just curious why are you puting in a 351W? if it's going to be a street car why not keep the original engine or make it easier on yourself and get a 302.

Well, I want a 351 because I have a 302 Mav already, and I have always been attracted to bigger displacements. If it wasn't such a pain in the butt, (MII front end, etc) I would love to have a 428 in a Mav. That would be awesome! If this 351 swap goes well, I might swap out the 302 in my 73 for a 351 as well. (much later down the road, of course). The 302 is a great engine, and I love mine, but to be a little more different, and to get more power easier and cheaper, I am going with the 351 in my Grabber. The Grabber will be a sleeper. All stock looking, but nasty under the hood. :) Yeah!!

a 393w is bigger displacement could make a mild one that would be real easy on the street with lots of passing power left over

Yeah, I would love to have a 393 or 408, but I'm a little strapped for that amount of cash right now... :) Maybe in a few years.....

It's coming from a Mustang. It was rebuilt not too long ago and has a performance cam, Edelbrock intake, Holley 4 bbl carb, Mallory ignition, and exhaust. The story is that this guy wants to get rid of the whole car, and it being such a beater (the body is terrible!) it is really cheap. So basically I am going to pull the drivetrain and put it in the Grabber, take what ever parts I want off the stang and then get rid of it...
