I have a 70 maverick with 200 I6 C4 automatic and 8" rear end. I may buy a 87 grand marquis with a 5.0 EFI on it. I want to swap this motor into the maverick but I'm still a rookie about all this swapping. What I really want to do with this maverick is build a street car with at least 300-400 hp on it on motor alone with the possibility of adding a suercharger somtime in the future. I want to swap to disk brakes in the front and eventually all four corners. and also swap the rear end to something that will hold up to all the power im looking for. My first question is. After reading the article on swaping the late model 5.0's in the mavs is the motor from the Grand marquis worth the expense? and what other parts can I use from the drivetrain that I can use for the Maverick? I will really, really appreciate any help I can get from any of you experts out there. God bless you all:):):Handshake

Moved to technical for you. When you've done the project and documented the work (hopefully with pictures) then you can make a tech article.

The Marquis 5.0 will be a roller block, may well be roller cammed, but.....................It's got the crappy E6SE heads and pistons without valve reliefs. So unless you're going to rebuild the short block and buy aftermaket heads, your HP aims are out of the question with the motor as is. You can swap heads, or swap the cam without running into piston to valve clearance issues, but not both. About the most HP you can hope for is swapping in an HO roller cam, that will in effect turn it into an 86 Mustang HO motor with a 200 HP ratiing. The transmission can be swapped too, but you'll need a different trans crossmember to fit the AOD. The 8.8 rear won't fit, at all. If it's got rear discs, they may fit your 8" rear. The front discs are also out of the question as the front suspensions are completely different.
