Just realised my 'newbie' posts were as a perspective buyer and I havent posted up the details!! I have had my '72 Grabber for about 18 months now. Managed to source one from Birmingham (England) for a really good price. It was shipped from California in 2007. I have recently rented a garage to get the engine out and tidy up the engine bay, then rebuild the engine. This is the car as she was two days ago!! Very much as I got her. On Monday I got the engine out. Then this evening after 6 hours of sanding, I decided to have a look at the engine. In need of some TLC! Thats as far as I got today. On researching, the engine is not the original Maverick engine. Its a '79 302 with 289 heads, Comp cam rockers, race series inlet and exhaust valves. Who knows what else I will find!! I'm very much a novice at this, I have my boyfriend who is helping me do this, but open to hints and tips from the wise! Caroline
Hi Caroline...you are off to a good start with your 72 Grabber! You will get more hints and tips, as you decide how you want YOUR Maverick to be, and then fire away with specific questions. This forum is filled with experts on the classic Ford Mavericks.....for supply, troubleshooting, repair, and restoration advice, etc. You've already gotten advice from Tody on here from Germany...and there is also the new member Phil in the UK....so you are just adding to the growing members in Europe. Looks like you are already restoring your engine bay, while the engine is out, which is a good idea...and so now you have alot of options for what to do with your engine, depending on whether you want something modified with more HP (horse power) and better performance, or just something that is reliable to get you where you're going. Good Luck!
Nice car and will be even nicer soon. And thats one heck of a garage space you rented there, it's huge.
We got really lucky with the garage. My boyfriend is building a couple of teardrop caravans this winter so it's perfect. My mate with a Honda Crx is also moving in but there is still load of space, it's made everything so easy to do and means that you can move on to other areas of the car whilst the engine is out. Thanks, the car is in really good condition, everything underneath is still intact. Again I was really lucky! Looking forward to making it my own and loving getting to know the car. Found a wee hidden box with the original spare keys in the engine bay!
Great looking garage and car Caroline. I would be thrilled with those. As we say in Georgia get her done.
Wow! Nice car and a great start to your project. Actually your photos remind me of another little lady we have here on the forum with her build of a certain pink Maverick out in Washington
Mav1970, those pics are great, very weird but exactly what I was planning to do, minus the pink! Convinced the boyfriend that the way I want it to look is going to work well!!
Not made much progress with the build!! Real difficulty sourcing the paint here in the UK but it was worth it!! Engine has been cleaned up and honed, need to get some replacement parts and can start putting it back together again.
