I'm thinking of starting to acquire parts for a stroked windsor Dart block engine. My engine builder says it will be about $3500 for the labor to build the long block.
The block I figure will be in the $2500 range and he recommended a stroke in the 430 range. He said it would make in the 600-700 hp range.

How much would everything else cost? He recommended AFR 225 heads for sure.

It will be a daily driven car. So I'm debating whether I want to go with nitrous or if I want to build it for supercharger/turbocharger. I really would like to hit 1000hp at some point with that engine.

1000 horsepower daily driven Maverick. Now that's a nice ride.

1000hp is a little wild for DD in my IMO. If I were going that route probably go w/ turbos. That's lot of pwr for SBF and be streetable w/o turbo/supercharger.
Im wondering if it wud be pleasant to drive even w/ force induction?

Sounds like you need two Mavericks. One to mod.....one to drive.

Just buy a pre-built engine, there are some pretty good deals out there. The mustang shop my friend owns, has ordered some pretty sweet combos, that you couldn't build for the same price buying all the parts yourself, at retail.

You should spend some time on sbftech.com. Lot of good info on any kind of engine you would want. They have some really good shops with lot of input.

I would figure 7k to 10k for an budget build at that level and that's on the low side doing a lot of the work your self. All out good stuff figure 15k to 20k easy.

why is it going to cost $3500 to build the engine?all he might have to do is bore and hone the block to the pistons{$300-$500}he may also have to take alittle material out of the side of the block and maybe put cam bearrings in it.the rotating assem.is already ballanced.they cost anywhere from $1000{scat}to $5000.$1500-3000 for heads unless you get the bare and have the ported and put different valves in them.cam lifters $300-700.springs$150-500.intake$100-700 carb?maybe$500.yes it ads up fast but $3500 just to put parts in sounds like alot of money.

Let's see, I paid $2200 for my dart Iron Eagle block, $1200 for the Callies crank, $1200 for 10 pistons/wristpins/rings, $1500 for Oliver billet rods. Machine work, including internal balancing the crank ( it took 8 slugs of mallory) was $1400. That's $7500 for an unassembled short block, I then put it together. Probably add on another $750-$1000 for assembly.

I forgot some stuff...:D The custom cam was like $375, then lifter were $400. You can get assembled heads from just about anywhere but the 225's would probably cost around $2500 assembled (that's a guess) I use Victor seniors and they were about double that. The super victor intake I think is about $225+-. Then gaskets, oil pan, water pump, timing chain and cover, carburetor. It all adds up pretty quick.

    engine

it can get pretty stupid.i have about $12,000 in a amc 360/396 stroker motor.the good thing about a ford is someone has already done it and figured out the problems.1000hp on engine alone is pretty hard.if it was me i would just build a bullit-proof engine and put a power adder on it.i put together a 390 this year and the #1 rod bearing delaminated and through the rod accross the track at about 108mph.the engine only had 13 passes on it.
