To be honest Knowledge of how the system works! if you have this then you will be able to decipher what you do and do not need. To each his own as to how you want it. but in a nut shell you will need the engine wiring and computer along with O2 sensors. which you will have to tie into the exsisting wiring of the Maverick and add a PCM relay and diode, fuel pump relay and A/C wot relay if you will be running A/C (however you can get by with out the a/c wot relay) i chose to go with it. You will also need access to wiring diags. to see what you can and cant do without in the wiring.

i "Think"(famous last words) i have a pretty good idea of how the system works
i have done a lot of research on it and was planning on using a EEC IV until i happened in to a really good deal on a running 98 EB ford explorer
i am using the rear-end(after narrowing) and engine(rebuilding with flat tops and bigger roller cam) for sure but i haven't made up my mind yet on whether or not to use the fuel injection system, but i have already pulled the engine & tranny wiring harnesses(tranny has O2 sensors on it) & the ECM

Make sure Tweecer suports the strategy. the strategy for the 98 explorer is CQAB1

    They do,
and i talked to thier customer serive group yesterday and they "said" that it could turn off the stuff i don't want to use & edit the engine parameters i need to run the bigger cam and higher compression.

I would get as much as you can from the Explorer, wiring and EEC components, wire it and get it running, and then sell or toss what you don't need. You'll find out what you do and don't need once you get to that point.
