62 Impala 2 door hardtop 283 w/power glide... painted it red with rustoleum and a paint brush, then put a pin stripe on it with a fat magic marker... I was 14 and got it for $25 bucks....

First car ... 1965 Mustang Coupe, 289, Cruise-a-Matic trans ... early model with gold air cleaner and valve covers, and 2 speed (slow and kinda-slow) windshield wipers. Bought for $525 in 1976. Sold for $1300 a year later. The two old guys that bought it at night thought they struck gold (shhhh ,,,"early car, Sept 64"). When the sun came up and they saw my first efforts at bodywork, I am sure reality hit home. :D

Second Car ... 1971 Torino Brougham, 351C, C4, PS, PB, Air, cushy cloth interior. You could load 5 friends into this car with you and scare the poop out of them ... which I did.... probably too often. Best A/C ever!
Bought for $1300 in 1977, sold for $1800 in 1980. Saw the car, still on the road in 1998, 20 miles north of me.

Third car ... OK ... finally got a Comet .... 1971 302, 3 speed, floor shift, Comfortweave bench seat interior. Bought for $550 in 1980 with only 60K miles on it. I believe this was the tipping point where I stopped making money on cars ... :biglaugh:.

By the way, in 1975, my best friend in high school had a 70 or 71 Maverick, 6 cylinder, auto trans with little else than a AM radio. We had some big misadventures in that poor, poor car. It deserved better ... It probably almost killed both of us once, but we all survived to drive on another day.

Forgot to mention. Since my Maverick is now pretty well back in one piece and driveable, I am going to be starting the same process on my Mustang. Like the Maverick it isn't needing a full resto. Actually it will be easier than my Maverick. I already have a 5.0 short block plus all of the Cobra goodies that were on the old engine...I just need some heads. I have the top loader 4 spd and original rear end. I'll need to do the disc brake swap on the frt. I already have a new gas tank I didn't use on my Maverick.

Once I get them both ready, I plan on doing the body and paint on both of them at once.

Mine was a 1978 Mercury Marquis. 2 door dove grey with red interior, 400 engine. Had 30k on it when I bought it in 1996.

I had a 1962 F100 with a 352, 3 speed, short bed stepside, and a 1964 Ford F100, 351c,3 speed, shortbed fleetside, when I turned 16. But my first car was a 1984 cougar ,traded the the 62 in on it. Sure wish I had both of them trucks back.

My first car was an '85 Chevette CS. 2-door hatch, 1.6 liters of fire and brimstone. Bought it in '97 at age 17 with $1000 I'd scraped together all on my own...

I was proud of it, and I credit this car for making me the gearhead I am today. It taught me how much fun RWD without traction can be, and when you're a broke teenager with a Chevette, you're gonna learn how to work on cars if you want to go anywhere.

I didn't grow up in a family of car people. I would have turned out a very different person today if my first car has been a newer FWD sh!tbox instead of an old RWD sh!tbox...

Hell that car STILL influences me. To this day I prefer to drive a small, old American RWD econo car.

Just thought I would mention that I've had a number of Mustangs, 1965 Convertible w/4spd was one of my favorites. Bought it for $500 back in 1972 and I had to use a hammer to get the valve covers off because sludge was about 2" thick in the tops of the heads. Rebuilt the 289 to FMS spec's and got a 9" from a Hipro Mustang and she flew. It even had a power top.
Also a picture of the 66 GT 4spd car I did a total ground up, with NOS Ford quarters and complete front end................the car was a California car that had been in a wreck....................Loved That Car!

1966 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. Huge car and should have kept it. Step Dad gave it to me when I was about 14. Had to get rid of it when I was about 17 when The Mavs started piling up in the driveways. I kick myself often. The Caddy was a hell of a car for its era. Power bench seat,tilt/telescopic,power everything. Just an absolute monster of a car. I pulled out the back seat one day and replaced it with a single mattress. My Mom axed that plan in about 5 minutes.LOL. :rofl2:
