pinion angle set based on what?

    i have seen that leaf spring cars should have 6-7 degrees negative pinion angle... is that 7 degrees down from the driveshaft angle or 7 degrees down from parallel to the trans angle..


    trans angle -4 (pointing down)
    driveshaft angle 0 (perfectly level)

    the pinion angle should be 2 degrees down from output shaft of the transmission angle. the theory is that when power is applied the pinion will rotate up and match the operating angle on the u-joints so they wont cause a vibration.
