Does anyone know if another other throttle cable cross references with the Maverick? Mine broke at the pedal and I need another one asap! Thanks!

You can fix your cable end easily with a bolt head and tube sleeve.

Its a junkyard part. I have a 6 cyl so I haven't installed it, but it moved like it suppose to on the Gabber in the JY. Maybe you can grind the bolt head sides flat and drill a hole through it to make an eye instead of a ball(?)

A Lokar universal works, you just need to transfer the plastic thingy that locks into the pedal arm.

Two different styles of cables on a Maverick. The very bottom cable in this picture shows the early "eyelet" style of cable. The eyelet goes insdie the car and attaches to the gas pedal. These are very prone to breakage, and only have one bolt that holds the cable to the firewall.

All the other cables in this picture don't have the eyelet to attach to the gas pedal. They have a plastic bushing that snaps into a hole in the gas pedal. This style of cable attaches to the firewall with two bolts.

These (2) styles of gas cables will NOT interchange with each other. One would need to change the gas pedal and the cable at the same time.

Thanks Craig! Thanks everyone for the replies. I have the early style cable. I'm gonna try the 85 GT deal and see if I can make it work. If not, I'll roll with the Lokar deal.

They made the change in the cable end and the pedals between 72 and 73.

My car sat for three days while I desperately tried to find the right cable. The Comet was my daily driver at the time ... I was very motivated to fix it fast.

Found a couple in the jy that had been cobbled back together, before finding one that looked like it had been replaced shortly before the car was junked ... it was like new and still had a paper label on it. I snagged it out of a 70 Galaxie or LTD (IIRC).

They might have used the early cables for 3 years (69-72?) across several models before switching to the later ones.
