Hey guys, It's been a while since i've been online. My poor maverick has been sitting for 3 months without a start. Finally today I had few hours to take a look at it and start the car. I started the car and wow it sounds awesome LOL. I'm starting to work on it and the first thing I need is to have my brakes converted from manual to power. The thing is that i have no idea where to start. Can somebody please guide me to the right direction on what I need. if you guys with your wise knowledge tell me what parts I need to start the process. Also, i'm trying to keep the cost at min. thanks for all the help in advance.
a donor car would be a good place to start. this way you will have all the parts, brackets and a good idea how everything goes/fits...good luck. Frank
That will be a hard task to do. POWER brake stuff for a Maverick is getting harder to find (ie....expensive). You can go aftermarket, but that is costly as well. First thing you need to do is convert to DISC brakes. Even with manual disc brakes....you will have a lot better braking in my opinion. I really think once you convert to manual disc brakes....you will not feel the need to convert to POWER disc brakes. Actually...after looking at your pictures, the FIRST thing you need to do is get that car checked out by a body shop to make sure the frame is not bent. Even if it is...it looks like it could be pulled out.
I have a complete power disc brake set up. http://mmb.maverick.to/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=835780 I have the complete disc brakes on a 74 Grabber, ready to pull. PM me if interested. Rick
you guys are jus wonderful. every time i ask a question, i get loads of responses to my questions. thank you all very much. as for checking it out by a body shop, yes i did and there's no frame damage whatsoever. I have the radiator core being replaced today.
Bad I used a aftermarket power brake unit form ABS Power Brake in Orange ca. I have made many post about it justdue a search . I install this unit about 5 yrs. ago with no problems . Jay
what all parts are needed to convert? the reason i'm asking is so i can keep an eye on auctions online and if the price is right i'll jump on it.
For the disc brakes, you will need: -Spindles -Rotors -Calipers -Dust Shields -Wheel Bearings and associated seal, washer, nut and cap -Brake Pads -Caliper Hardware -Rubber BRake Hose For Maverick Power Brakes add: -Booster -Booster mounting bracket (to firewall) -Driver's Side shock tower to cowl brace -Inside brake pedal and mounting bracket -Proportioning valve -Steel brake lines
74-77 Mavericks/Comets, Granadas and Monarch for sure. I thank 71-73 Mustangs, not sure. You will be amoung the millions looking for these donors. If you find one be ready to jump on it. read here: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35957 Rick
Well.....I don't know about "god of mavericks".....maybe King or Duke. Power brakes were an option on 1975-1977 Ford Mavericks. ALL 1976-1977 Mavericks had manual disc brakes. Like Rick said.....everybody is looking for these parts.
