John R. Spring = Former JC Whitney supplier / wholesale only / may sell locally out of their warehouse (800-521-0563 / Part #42-717) / email and voice mail in boxes are both full (as of post date 12/14/11)

Classic Car Springs = no listing / uses John R. Spring part#

Laurel Mountain Mustang (eBay) = $169/set + Shipping

    USED SPRINGS

As far as I can determine, only the Maverick / Comet springs are an exact match in dimensions and load capacity. According to published online specifications, Granada and Monarch seem to be the closest; with the E-150 Van next in line...

    Maverick (all years):

    • Width = 2-1/2
    • # of Leaves = 3 or 4 (can't find exact load capacities)
    • Measures (A/B) = 23-9/16 x 31-7/16
    Granada or Mercury Monarch (1975-80):

    • Width = 2-1/2
    • # of Leaves = 4 (829lb load capacity)
    • # of Leaves = 5 (927lb load capacity)
    • Measures (A/B) = 23-5/8 x 31-3/8
    E-150 Van: 75-91 E100 / E150 with 138" or 158" Wheelbase

    • Width = 2-1/2
    • # of Leaves = 5
    • Measures (A/B) = 23-7/8 x 31
    • Load Capacity = 1450lbs

    E-150 Van: 75-91 E100 / E150 with 138" or 158" Wheelbase

    • Width = 2-1/2
    • # of Leaves = 6
    • Measures (A/B) = 23-7/8 x 31
    • Load Capacity = 1750lbs
    E-150 Van: 92-93 E100 / E150 with Full Taper Leaf Spring

    • Width = 2-1/2
    • # of Leaves = 2
    • Measures (A/B) = 23-7/8 x 31
    • Load Capacity = 1250lbs
If anything I've listed above is incorrect, please feel free to let me know and I'll change it.

And if anyone else has information to post on new or used spring resources, please add your replies to the chain.

That's where mine are from. Have not had the car off of the stands yet. They are stamped JLS or JRS.. something like that..

Maybe "JRS" means "John R Spring", the former JC Whitney supplier that I couldn't get in contact with directly...???

Sweet! How high will this lift the rear end? What is the (A/B) measurement?

Thanks. If I use the E-150 springs, can I get bushings that have the smaller bolt hole? Spacer?

I've got a Leaf question maybe someone can help me with...I recently snagged a rear end from another maverick for the 4 to 5 bolt conversion on my 71 Comet. I didn't grab the leafs thinking I could use the ones currently on the car. Somewhere I heard that the rear springs were different between the 4 bolt and 5 bolt rears. Maybe it was the hangers, I'm not sure something is supposed to be different. Before I tackle the rear on my Comet, what hardware should I chase down. I want to have all my ducks in a row. Removing the rear end from that old 4 door Mav just about kicked my butt. It wasn't as easy as you'd expect. If the bolts didn't break, every turn was a bitch to the bitter end, even utilizing a nice sized pipe on the breaker bar. That job made me feel my age... Ouch!

So can I use my original springs and hardware. Maybe replace all the bushings, nuts and bolts, what else? Rubber or poly?

Ordered U-bolts and Springs from Melvin's, they ship the U-bolts the springs are drop shipped. Ordered new shackles from Summit and the bushings that come on it are to big, got the replacements from Nappa. Everything is bolted up. It sure changed the stance in the rear. I'll post pics as soon as I get some.
