Sounds to me like you'd be a prime candidate for one of Edelbrock's power packages. All the guess work is removed from the equation. You can get great mileage from a 4V like stated before and regardless of how many holes there are in the carb, more power means more lead foot!
Both of you skipped over his statement about having a lead foot obviously. Yes, you CAN get great mileage from a 4 bbl conversion, but few actually will, due to the tendency to plant your right foot into the carb every chance you get, for quite some time after the conversion. The boy's on a budget here, there's absolutely no reason to goad him into spending money he does not want to, nor may be able to afford to on a prepackaged kit that's going to set him back enough money to buy a few hundred gallons of the extra gas he quite honestly, very well may not save. How many miles per gallon WILL he save IF he CAN keep his foot out of the carb after the conversion (kit or just the intake and carb) Take that theoretical difference, then do the math and figure how long it'll take him to recoup the expense of the conversion. Sure it sounds good on paper, but not everyone can afford to "do it all at once".
he said he is after more HP...that equals more fuel... what are the...aluminum heads...w/2V...for... what he wants is what everyone else wants...500 RWHP w/25 MPG...
He also made it perfectly clear he's on a budget. And since when do aluminum heads require a 4 bbl carb and intake ? :16suspect Might want to talk to some dirt track guys and see how that works before passing judgment
Better than it will be with the stock unported iron heads. And since you're asking so many questions, tell me why he MUST upgrade the intake and carb when swapping to aluminum heads ? Why MUST he use a 4 bbl carb with aluminum heads ? You haven't even asked him what Motorcraft 2 bbl he's got. So how can you assume, he's got one that has larger throttle bores than a 570-600 cfm 4 bbl ? Hey, I'm certainly no fan of the Motorcraft 2 bbl, but if that's what he's got and needs to use for the time being, I see no reason why he cannot use it. No matter what pile of parts it's sitting on, it'll still function and feed it fuel.
have him tell you... it was in the first post of his thread... no est. on the HP/MPG, just you know. how well will they work without a cam/exhaust upgrade? I am thinking being he's on a budget, why does he need...aluminum heads...aluminum intake... my thinking the best for the buck...with that $300 2V all he needs is a good tune. ......
Man someone is a bit cranky. And you obviously missed this statement...... We're all making assumptions here, how do you know that he's running a Motorcraft? He may have purchased a 500 cfm Holley from an old circle track guy. The man asked for suggestions and that is what he is getting, yes he said cheap but that is not always the best route because you get what you pay for. He also (no offense to the OP) has a lot of learning to do by the questions he asks and the knowledge he has displayed in his posts. At least he is doing it right and trying to get the right info BEFORE diving in and making a huge mess. We were all where he now at some point and not having options presented when asked does not allow him to grow by opening his eyes to other possibilities. You can't teach by simply answering a question and he seems to have come hear to learn.
I am thinking that if $300 was alot for him for a carb, which it would be for me, then why not just put a better cam in it and call it good? At least till he saves up some dough to get a better combo. Really, no matter which way or what he does, it costs money that it sounds he doesn't have. When I started trying to get more out of my engine I found out that it seemed Ford was higher in cost and either I was all in or just playing around. I have alot of money in my motor and it isn't producing much. Well.. at least when the car was running. I like Franks idea. Since he's keeping the 2v, give it a good tune. Make sure it's breathing good and maybe that cam..
Yeah I drive on hwy 75 it does suck badly. I have a dummy I sit in the passenger seat and take the HOV. LOL:bananaman
The carb is a motorcraft 2150. Im not looking for 500hp although that would be nice . Keep in mind this will be a daily driver back in forth from mckinney to dallas. Yes I would like to keep the 2v just because I bought it brand new for $300 and I cant take it back or get anywhere close to what I paid for it selling it on CL. I've seen some nice 2v intakes and maybe with the correct heads I can achieve what im looking for and thats a little more get up and go. I have spent more than $12,000 into this money pit on misc parts and its hasn't run more than 3 months at a time starting with rebuilding the Inline6 to the 302 swap. Hell I havent even started on the body or the interior. I just wanted to ask some questions and find out some things so I know what im getting into later on when I finally get a new intake and aluminum heads. Thanks again for everyones help!
I have an exhaust upgrade, I guess you can call it that. Im running hooker 6901's with true dual flow master 40 series. I have money, Im just trying to save a little bit for now because were trying for kids in february and those things eat more money than this maverick. This is not something I will be doing soon, maybe after 2012 is over with. I dont want it to end up like the last 2 engines and have problems over and over again by rushing and trying to get it running. As far as gas goes im not sure what im getting now, I bought a new sending unit from autokrafters and now the reading is off after half a tank it sits on E so im not sure how many miles i get to a gallon or tank. I do have a lead foot and a crappy drive so it will eat a crap load of gas regardless. I figured since its a 2v it might save me more money by sticking with the carb I have in the long run.
