Ok im about to change bellhousings and wanted to know if im doing this the correct way. I removed the smaller shaft gear thing and removed all the bolts holding the bellhousing to the middle piece of the tranny. I then removed the other side that has the bigger gear shaft with the circlure gears so its just the aluminum bellhousing? Is this the correct way to swap bellhousings? Then just repeat same procedure, but backwards and torque bellhousing bolts to 38lbs? What are the torque specs for the half inch bolts that hold the circular gear things and the larger shaft? Please chime in pauls or someone who knows transmissions.

The iron parts with the gears is the front pump assembly, that needs to go back in the same way it all came out. The center gear is the part that the converter hub slips into that you must make sure the converter goes all the way in when you stab it. Other wise forcing it will break that gear and ruin the pump. Needless to say, don't drop any of the iron parts on the floor, they're very brittle.

It must have been the way I seperated the older bellhousing. On my good transmission with the bad stripped starter hole it came off by its self without the gears when I pulled them apart. Was very easy to change. I have the bellhousing put back on, new filter and gasket and ready to re-install. Will be picking up my new flex plate this morning. Hopefully everything goes back together smoothly and works properlly.

Sucks all that work and now I have a bad transmission fluid leak. Probably loose a quart a day. Going to let the tranny shop fix the leak. I used a whole tube of red silicone and it still leaks from the pan.

Are we talking about a C4? Best I can recall when I swapped bellhousings on mine there was pretty much nothing to it. Got me wondering if I did it wrong... :hmmm:

Yeah it was from one c4 to another same size bell. I pulled the first one off wrong. Got it installed.
