http://spokane.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=maverick&srchType=T&minAsk=&maxAsk= good deal or what?
Yeah I just saw that this morning and thought it looked like a decent deal but you never know what lurks under the skin on these things so a close up inspection is your best bet. This 1974 Ford Maverick Grabber with 73902 original miles on it is as straight and relatively rust free a Maverick as you will find. It has the original 250 6 cylinder motor and the C4 three speed automatic transmission. Since it is a Grabber, it has the eight inch rearend, five bolt wheels, front disc brakes and power rack and pinion steering. It has new brakes and wheel cylinders and a recent major engine tune-up. This car runs and drives like a 1974 Maverick and is currently licensed. It has brand new studded snow tires on the rear and decent tires on the front. The headliner needs replaced and the original bench seat and carpet is gone. The windshield is cracked but all other glass is good. This would be a perfect little Grabber to restore and put a 302 in or just to drive as-is. $1,500 OBO Call 509-868-3301 or reply through C.L. for more information or more pictures. Location: West Plains it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
I don't think it has a rack and pinion steering like the ad states. The guy also thinks because it is a Grabber it has 5-lugs. We all know that ALL 74's have 5-lug. That being say...I don't trust anything the guy is saying. His definition of "relatively rust free" might not be what I call relatively rust free. I would need to lay an eye on it before making a deal.
if i was even fairly close i'd look at and pick it up if it looks somewhere close to as good on the pics.hard to find a decent one arond here at a decent price that has a decent body...southern oh. sucks for cars
Going only by the 2 pictures provided I would say its a good deal. I'm sure it needs a tuneup and gone thru, and check the obvious places for rust... but it looks solid in the 2 pictures and I would pop on the deal if it was near me.
plus it says $1500 OBO, which means talk them down to $1,000 and gradually work up if they don't bite.
I agree. Or actually, just show up with 10 $100 bills, look at it, point out the rust under the passenger seat and rear quarters, and ask if they are game. And point out that it is NOT rack and pinion steering. And clarify that "Grabber" for that year was basically a sticker on the hood. Gonna cost at least a hundred for new bench seat, and another 150 for carpet, then headliner will need windshield removed to replace. Lot of work ahead of you for the price. Talk them down a bit.
Also looking at the grabber appeal. You would have to ad grabber hood, small bumpers, and a spoiler. adds up fast. Not a bad looking car though.
