That's who appraised my car. I sent a copy to Grundy when I applied for insurance and it was a done deal.

I might as well chime in too. :)

I have had Hagerty for many years now. Had a claim a few years back for a cracked windshield and it was handled very quickly and with no hassle. Also had to use the roadside service a couple years ago when the crank failed and killed the motor on the way home from Joplin. They had a flatbed sent out at midnight on a Sunday very quickly and set up arrangements for me at a nearby hotel after giving me a few to pick from. They didn't pay for the hotel, but it was nice to have someone take care of that detail at a time when stress levels are running at maximum.

At least here in Michigan there are a few requirements, like the need for an antique license plate, limiting your driving to "special events" and car shows (although no specific mileage limitation), proving you have other cars to drive for "routine transportation" and keeping the car in a locked garage (all of which were true for me anyway...well most, depending on how you define a "special event" :)), but so far I have nothing but good things to say about Hagerty.

I think my yearly cost is a little over $200 per year for $20,000 of coverage.

Also, Hagerty won't cover damages done at race tracks.

Actually, they refuse to cover you if they think you are racing, at least here in Texas.

I was thinking about that after I posted. I believe they'll cover you if you're there as a spectator and something happens, but no dice if they think you've been racing.

Grundy has the same disclaimer in their policy.

Just as a side note, and I'm sure most drag racers have insurance on their cars, I have had insurance (for drag racing only) on all of my race cars. Most companies will insure your "race only" car 24/7, at your home as long as it has a locked garage from fire (where your home owners insurance will not touch a race only car), and it covers you during transport, if stollen, at the track from your pit stall to the staging lanes.............does not cover the car from the christmas tree to the end of strip, but does cover the car when on the return road and back to pit stall. My Maverick is insured for $30k and my trailer for $3k................and I wouldn't be without it. The cost is $480 per year.
There are a number of insurance companies like; Kincaid Racing Insurance, William Horton, Gulfway, and Heacock to name a couple.

in dealing with trying to figure out a value of my maverick when it was wrecked it was appraised twice. the insurance companys appraiser appraised it at 16,200.00 and the appraiser i hired came in at $30,000.00. then we had to get an arbitrator to talk with both appraisers to come to an agreed value. he came to $20,000.00.
now i had JBA give me an estimate to do the rebuild. they came in at $45,000.00 and said it would take 9-12 months.

my experience with appraisers is that they are full of BS. when its a popular car like a mustang or camaro or other collectible cars its easy to appraise the value. when teh car is rare and unique like a maverick, they dont have a clue.
i provided them with $25,000 of parts and labor i paid out for machine work, paint, and the cage. i showed adds for cars with similar modifications ranging from 15k to 25k. in the end these guys just kinda decided on a price they made up.
the 20k wont cover my time and cost that it will take to build another car. im going to have a agreed value insurance for my next car and it will be high enough to cover the full rebuild cost of my car, not the sellable value.
the lesson i learned is to not underinsure my cars, and that the car can be destroyed in a blink of the eye.

I got a 74 F250 that is on Nationwide an listed as daily driver with unlimited mileage for $45 a month liability an said I could get it appraised an get more insurance on it. I am going to add the Mustang & Maverick when I get one to it with no problem. Everybody else I call say 6,000 miles a year only with Classic car Insurance. Most insurances go by NADA or Kelly Blue Book one thing bout the Mavericks they dont book high but they should.
