Just wanted to tell you guys that Mavericks and Comets are starting gain momentum on the market. Afew days ago I decided to take my car to auction. It is a 1971 Grabber mostly origional v8 auto ac ps. Bench seat with column shift auto. Rust free California car. I gave 6500 for the car and had to ship it to Florida. Then removed all the dents, repaired any mechanical problems and sprayed it yellow pearl PPG. I installed some Torque Thrust 2's, bigger sway bar, KYB shocks, disc brake conversion on front and rebuilt the suspension complete with new rear springs. I built the car to keep it. However things change. I had bought some performance parts that I never put on the car because I did'nt want to mess it up. It ran very nice and sounded good with dual flowmaster exhaust. Anyway, the car booked at 13500. I put an 11000 reserve on it. The car went for 26500!!!! I'm still in shock. I hope this is good news to you guys. Now i need another Mav! Thanks Mark
Congratulations Mark, and thanks for coming to the forum ............... We have been having a discussion on that auction in a different thread. I will be most interested in what you have to say about the whole thing and I'm sure many of the guys wil have questions.
from West Georgia. Sounds like the auction was good to you. Good luck on your hunt for another Maverick.
I would love to hear more of the story about what the auction process was like. Did anyone from Mecum comment about the sale price? Reaction from the crowd around you? Did you learn anything about the buyer? Details Mark, details !!!! ...............
Welcome...I was there and liked your car and was floored at what it sold for....I tried to find you by the car before and after the sale but never did

Mecum Thanks for the welcome. Just wanted to say that I never presented my old car as being a show car. It was a nice driver to me. I regret not doing the body myself but that's hindsight now. You guys need to know that Mecum is different than B. J. in that the cars are in order according to value. Thats why my car went through on Wednesday. The big money stuff goes through on Saturday or Sunday. One more thing. I don't know where my car is going after sale, but I talked to a German classic car broker and he told me that American cars that they like over there are going for three times the true value. Same thing with the U.K., New Zealand. Also, Orlando has a large Latin population. They love Mavericks! Mavericks to them are like a Shelby Mustang to us. Maybe that's the reason for the inflated price?
