Having problems identifying an engine, the number above the starter is ETTE......looks just like this one in the pic, what is it, I mean it a small block ford but I can't find these numbers on the net, just this pic and nobody has said what it is, I would like to find out if it's one I would want. Almost forgot to mention it does have a factory four barrel intake on it, it is complete with heads.
I cant enlarge the picture to get a good look at it. There should be more numbers and letters than that. Please clean the eid up a little and post exactly what it says and we can decode the engine.
Thanks! Normally the ID tag is in a different area right above the starter. In that area mine says 79 for the year and then half a foot away there should be a rectangle looking tag with the EID printed on it. See if you can find that and I will see if I can find anything with these numbers.
Nope no other place, I looked all over, I know where it should be but all thats even close has this number, it right above the starter.
Where the first T is should be a number. This is an odd eid. Check the top rear of the block, behind where the head bolts on for another code It's stamped very light and often hard to see or read, but this will tell you model, date and production sequence. This is all I found below. E = 1980s T = ? (6 = 6th year, 7 = 7th year, etc.) T = Truck E = Ford Engine Engineering Division 6 = 1986 A = January
I understand, i guess i should mention this engine is in the local junkyard in a really screwed up ranger truck, the factory four barrel caught my eye so I wanted to research the number to see what it is.
Dont know, it was kinda cut up and modified with a tilt front end filled with foam and kinda a crappy job on everything, the engine looks at LOT like the 302 HIPO i had way back just looking at the accessories and bolt ons. And it does have some screw in freeze plugs .
Im not 100% sure, but from looking up rangers they only came with a v4 or v6 so someone put a v8 in it. Someone else might be able to correct me if im wrong.
Yeah you can easily tell it is a transplant, I just want to know if that engine is what I hope it is lol.
I would look inside the ranger for any paper work with the persons name and phone number from before and call him and ask what he put in it. LOL. Without the correct EID its really hard to determine what it is, sorry I couldnt be anymore helpful.
Yeah but that is the number thats on it, there is no other number even close by, I will take anothe look at it if I can today and see if I see a number on the rear of it at the tranny mounting location.
