Great Junkyard trip.(Warning pic heavy, + Videos)

Pretty much the junkyards in my area never have old cars anymore, if there's 2 it's a good day. I got tipped off that one yard had a Maverick and a Falcon so I went to check it out.

    Junkyard info: http://pickapart.org/locations.html (San Bernardino) 909-913-5220 951-749-2720

I got a big old grin when I found almost 30 old cars :D

Best news was that I was able to get the last parts I need for the Falcon project. Bad news was that I went over budget and couldn't pick up maverick parts lol

I got all this for $230, I know it's pricey. But our yards in California charge and arm and a leg for parts :(

But just for reference a replacement falcon tank is $400, gearbox is $500 and a bumper is $450.
The gearbox was mint, looked like it had been rebuilt recently had minimal play. Gas tank had no holes and barely any rust outside. None inside, thank god! The bumper was straight as an arrow and the chrome was 90% good :)

Also picked up a few interior pieces for the Falcon, such as the "day/night" rear view mirror.

I found two 70 mavericks, One I tried to purchase before but they wouldn't lower the price on. Both were plain Jane cars. Also on the way back I saw a 73 four door on the freeway. :drive:

    Videos:

Sorry for the quality, I've been battling a cold for a week now and I've never used the camcorder on my phone before. I forgot to set the video to MP4 so it came out kinda choppy.

    EDIT: i'm done uploading

I was gonna re-size the images, but I'd rather just thumbnail them(click to enlarge). They're like 2000x3000.

I observed the hitch on the second video - with a six cylinder? Wonder what they were towing? :scratchchin:

Awesome. One thing I'll never get used to is seeing those junkyards in the south west. Those cars are more than 40 years old and there's not a spec of rust on them. If they were here there would be nothing left except Swiss cheese where the metal used to be. Unreal.

You guys would love Daley's down here in Texas...

Lots of old stuff, and they never crush. Something like 600 acres of old cars.

Long gone down here also. But this one guy refuses to crush. He has all those big-bumper chrome jobbies from the 40s and 50s, and TONS of them. Last count, 7 mavericks.

When I first started junkyarding that's how they all were, then they changed and never had any old cars. I don't know how I hit this jackpot. it's literally been 7 years since they've had this many in one yard.

I think they bought out someone's stash, most of the cars/trucks were Fords.

I just need to go open up another credit card to buy more parts lol

I think the videos should be up now.

nice score! Definitely hard to find old cars in the typical yard these days..Seems like if your not buddies with an employee at the yard, your always too late getting to the older cars

When I think of scores..this one always comes to mind. best day of my life. Can't wait to go back some day

I only dream about finding a Grabber in a junkyard!

The first time I ever went to the junkyard there was a 71 Grabber blue one with the hood and spoiler still there, I was 15 and didn't know anything about these cars.

I thought the hood and spoilers were common so I didn't pick them up and ever since then I've never seen another Grabber hood or spoiler at a junkyard :(

aw man! that sucks! gotta make a road trip and stop at every yard you pass! Thats how I found my first junkyard grabber! (y)
that yard I pictured...dang.. I walk in stunned, then ask the guy if he's got mavericks and he points to a green grabber in the bushes and says follow me, theres a buuuunch more around the corner. green grabber, blue grabbers, red grabber and like 10 other plain jains. I couldn't get them all in the pictures at once. probably had 25 pintos, a sprint, mustangs on musssstangs..old coupes shot up with bullet holes haha. Yard was massive and I didn't have the time to see the other loads of classics. Lookin down a row of mavericks and seeing 3 spoilers waiting for me to pull off I just about passed out :D
