You're going to need small-chambered heads (54-58cc) and nothing thicker than .021" thick head gaskets (compressed). Going to need a serious camshaft to get close to your goals and, as mentioned, you'll need a retro-fit hydraulic roller camshaft setup or get used to a rowdy flat tappet with a lot of converter.

Might want to keep what you've got running in the car and build a later roller block engine that will be easier to make the power you want. And yes, the Mach 1 was easier to make 300 to the tire.

I have a 1991 5.0 with about 100,000 miles on it, stock bottom end, stock heads with upgraded valesprings,Ford racing B303 cam (cheap) Edelbrock performer RPM intake,650 holley carb headman headers with 2.5" exhaust.
This combo might make 250 HP and is very easy to reproduce.Watch the video and see if you would be happy with something like this.

I can't believe everyone (well almost) missed the fact that he's got a 76 motor, that also happens to have those giant grand canyon size dished pisston centers. That needs to be addressed before buying heads or a 4 bbl intake. A Comp 268H cam would help, but only a crutch for the very low comp ratio. 54 cc 289 heads would help, but that's only going to get him to 9 to 1 and he'll still have poor quench with those pistons. The extra .020 deck really isn't an issue (if it's there) that can be easily off at rebuild time, this would also serve to square the decks anyway.

Camshaft ground on 104 intake centerline with a 108 or 110 lsa. Should build some decent cylinder pressure. Not a cure but it will certainly help.

At one point, my '04 Mach I was at 472rwhp on the stock lower end.

Once I decided to push the power level, I forged, (and stroked since it was disassembled), to be safe.

That's pretty cool but the stock block is what would keep me up at night

I would agree, but I wasn't concerned. I never raced the car, just open-throttled it on the German Autobahn. (y)

modular blocks are pretty damn strong, should of kept mine but everyone around here has one so i was lookin to go oldschool , but that gets pricey, so idk what im gonna do probably just throw full exhaust on it, cam it and cruise in it this summer , better than nothin i guess

Cruise control remained at 130mph. We won't discuss gas mileage, though...
