There was question about what distributer I had in another thread. I think it is a duraspark system, but I don't know who makes the distributer. I am trying to figure out exactly what cap and rotor I need? And does this have points or eletronic, I think electronic, but honestly don't know how to identify properly. Can I buy any performance or stock cap and rotor? Duralast box? Numbers on the back of distributor, google search has hits on mustang distributor, but doesn't give me info on which cap and rotor to buy.
Do you think this one would work? I like the color, and it's cheaper than local parts store. Local store has "performance" models, do they make a difference?
I just ordered a Marti Report. I will find out for sure soon enough. If it is a stallion, I think they are pretty valuable. I may just sell the car and buy an older Grabber.
Definately a Duraspark. Do yourself a favor though and upgrade to the large post type distributor cap. This setup was used on the early 80's Duraspark with the same distributor, it just uses an adapter between the cap and distributor body. The whole setup (adapter, cap and rotor) can be bought in a set at the local parts house. Get the set with the brass terminals. Then also get a good quality set of spark plug wires to match. I use the Ford Racing 9mm wire sets, they only cost $40-45 and are good for 3/4 years service.
I plan to do the wires and plugs too. Can you provide a link to the larger post type distributor cap? I am trying to buy everything from summitracing.com, so if you can find it on there that would be great. I found an ACCEL performance cap, not sure if it is the same.
No need to order it from Summit, when you can get it from the local parts house. Unless you just like to wait for the UPS guy. It's a stock Ford Duraspark distributor. Get a cap & rotor kit for an 85 Mustang HO, plus the matching spark plug wires, don't cheap out on the wires.
Go ask for a cap, rotor and cap adapter for an 85 Mustang GT with the 5.0 HO motor. Get the wires too. If they cannot fill this simple request, go to another parts house that will. It's not rocket surgery. I'm using this same setup on my 77 Comet, same distributor as yours, only mine has a steel cam gear to match the roller cam.
NAPA KNOW HOW!!!!! NAPA KNOW HOW!!!!! IF they cant find it just ask if you can look through their book. ITS in there.
