Question about a F-150

    To any mechanics out here. Will a rearend from a 1977 F-150 fit in a 1986 F-150? Thanks for any help I get

    I don't think the spring perches are in the same place. The 86 perches are wider than the 77 I believe. Other than the fact that the 77 is a 9" and the 86 is a 8.8". You could make it work with a little effort.

    Are you changing out due to pinion loosing up?
    If early enough, just torque it back up.

    Rear ends are interchangeable put a 8.8 out of a 1991 F150 in my 79 when i was in a pinch.No problem.

    bad housing

    Im changing it out because the guy I bought it from has put seals and bearings on it twice and it still leaks so it has to be in the rearend housing itself.

    If its a 8.8 the axles are worn, Just get set of axles. They also make
    a offset bearing works some times.

    where is it leaking at?
    if its from the yoke you can just replace the yoke. also it can leak through the splines. i will always put sealant on the splines to prevent that. i really doubt that the housing is the problem with the leak. i would say the odds are the previous owner didnt know what they were doing.

    I tried those in a passenger car 12 bolt that was in my GTO, it was a bandaid at best and didn't last. It moved the seal too close to the unmachined part of the axle and with the amount of movement you have with c-clip axles it took the seal out in short order.
