I have also seen this "mentioned"...but have never seen it. I am pretty confident to say it never happended with the 10" rotors.

If I'm reading that right. about 650 with shipping. That does seem pretty good.

Still though I sent those scarebird guys a mail to find out more information.

So far this has cost me about $310 but i had to buy the 5-lug drum hubs if you already have five lug drums you can use them

    $100 for brackets with shipping
$100 for calipers & hoses with core charges
$30 for studs* probly could have found them cheaper
$40 for for 5-lug drum hubs
$40 for rotors* ordered online(really cheap) $60 at oreillys

Should be less then that ... use the 2.1.4/M kit = $525 plus shipping - this is a 67-73 Mustang (mavericks use this front suspension) with manual brakes. Power brakes would be different. As always, before ordering call them and tell them exactly what you are doing and they will get the right parts for your car.

    :)

Yea so I mailed them about my specifics on engine size and already having 5 lug drums.

Heres the swap they suggest and the technical details for doing it.

Talked to my brother-in-law whose an automotive engineer and he said the concepts are sound and worth a try. He even likes the part choices said they are used in some other disc brake swaps he knows about.

My $.02. I looked at the parts list and my concern is unpopular donor car parts and small Toyota rotors... I did Granada's on my Mav. No parts issues and all Ford. $600 for parts and they are made for a heavier car so stopping power is great.

Well what I can say to the popularity or not of the parts. The parts on the list for the one they suggested for me are popular for changing the drum brakes on 4 runners to disc. If they can stop a 4 runner they should be able to stop a maverick/comet.

The drums on the 4 Runner would be on the back, right? .... back brakes are only 1/3rd of your braking due to weight transfer. Go big on front brakes.

I did this swap about 2 months ago on the wifes mav. Her car is a 4 lug and she didn't want to have to buy new wheels and tires. (hers are only 2 years old). So far it has been a great deal. The kit bolted directly on only had to machine the hub a bit. I have to say it beats the heck out of drum brakes. I guess I should at least post the pics. (when I remember how to do it LOL)

everybody is bashing this setup because of the 10" rotor
when u really think about it the Maverick/Granada brakes are 11", yes but when u break it down, that's circumference of the rotor your really only getting a 1/2 inch more leverage, if u go from center of the hub to the edge (or radius) of the rotor is only a 1/2 inch more
These rotors are on a Toyota Privia which is a mini van that weighs more than 3500lbs with 15" wheels
where as the maverick weighs 2800lbs with a v8 in 1972
and me personally I like not having to remove the bearings to take the rotor off...lol
