You are aware that the LS1/LT1 engines require a mustang II front suspension or a fox body strut style suspension... Neither one are cheap and both require some fabrication skills, so if you are trying to keep under a budjet make sure you factor the extra costs involved into it.

Its really hard to say its cheaper to buy a $700 used LS engine + a turbo setup + a $2500 RC mustang II setup + a chebby transmission + make a new driveshaft, when you could turbo a used 5.0, T5/C4/Aod and use the factory suspension setup, and a fox body or V8 driveshaft ..heck you could probably pick up an old grand marquis for $500 use everything from the fuel injection to the transmission and pick up one of 71golds Aod transmission mounts(you will have to make your own for the chebby engine), and you might even get luckey enough to have a useable rear disk setup.

the lt1 is nothing special. its almost the same as a classic small block chevy, just a reverse flow coolant system and efi. it wasnt even around for 10 years. its extinct and will just get expensive to get parts for
the lsx and lqx motors have oil pans that will work with the stock maverick steering. it does not require mustang II suspension conversion.

It looks really great that setup, but it must be a royal pain in the butt to change spark plugs there!

looks easy to me. notice there are no shock towers. it is a small block chevy. the center plugs are always harder to change than they are on a ford so you may be right!!!
