Hi all, I swear I've posted here before since I've had my Maverick since 1995. Doesn't mean I won't have dumb questions. Anyhow, I'm looking at having Crites Restoration make me some 351w swap headers. I spoke with them on the phone and the headers were designed for a power steering car. Does anybody see a problem with installing them on a manual steering car? I'm just missing a pump and the steering box is in the same spot (I hope)? Thanks
I am assuming they are designed to clear the power steering cylinder (with a drop bracket, perhaps). So, I would guess they should clear a manual steering car no problem. Sorry for the ambiguous response, maybe someone else will have first hand experience.
I don`t have crites headers but my manual pitman arm hits my header on tight left turns so I don`t have full lock to lock like I should . If you still have the power pitman arm and everything then as far as the headers are concernd you still have power steering.
Poking around the net to see what I can find. The lady on the phone didnt have an immediate answer but maybe if I email they can tell me. My car has always been manual steering, sounds like it matters...
I don't see why they wouldn't fit. I am in Detroit area and have a set in the box so if you're not too far away in OH, you'd be welcomed to drive up and try them out. Are they gonna make some again soon? When I spoke to them a couple month's ago I was told they wouldn't be making them anytime soon. Regards, Joe
I was told they'd need 6 orders to make one. So I could put in my order and wait. I'm not sure if that would mean 6 Maverick header orders or 6 header orders in general. I don't even have an engine yet. I figured these would be the first thing I'd order due to the long lead time.
Good info, thanks! If you ever have time to snap a picture of the area I'd be really appreciative. thanks! Also, what's everybodies opinions on the Crites with raised port heads? AFR 225 heads are raised .375", is that going to be a problem?
