i want to bring my suspension into the modern age and i dont know where to begin. ive done some reading into the mustang II front end, but would that really make it a real competitor? i know im not driving a 2000 car, but im not driving a block of lead either. depending on what i end up using, what need to be done to the shock towers (re inforcement or removal) also what are my options in the rear? (losing leaf springs) how good is the canalever setup anyway? what is it good at?

i need someone to point me in the right direction, list some fabrications, or tell me about their set-up. shed some light on my project.

i know im all over the place, sorry. i appreciate any and all input!!

    Thanks in advance!!! :tiphat:

oh and **** this guy btw.. he has a big mouth and drives like an old woman
    either.

there are lots of things you can do for your suspension.
sense handling seems to be a concern i would stay with the stock configuration. i would recommend the global west system for the front. http://www.globalwest.net/1970-77maverick.html

there are two ways i would go with the rear.
    1. get some custom leaf springs based on the weight and desired ride height. i would put caltracs bars on them, build a custom watts link on the rear end. add a sway bar to the rear with some two way adjustable shocks.
2 build a torque arm system. there are several kits out there for mustangs that can be adapted to the maverick. this way would give you allot of tunability of the suspension.

    check out this build, http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=54307

I am in the process of putting the GW lower control arms and Strut Rod in my Maverick. Let me just say that I really wanted to put the Rod&Custom Motorsports kit in the car, but didn't want to spend that much more money(as I have already spent a lot more 0's than I wanted to in refreshening this old race car) so I decided on the GW products as they would give my suspension a lot more flexibility............my car is a drag only car but a street car would benifit also............and I wanted some really stout parts to stand up to lifting the tires off the ground and then having them come back down without breaking stuff. Here is the R&C site; http://rcmotorsportsinc.com/

The one thing about the R&C kit is you also change to rack&pinion steering and get rid of that old steering box..........also quite a lot of flexibility with different shocks and spring rates, and you do away with the shock towers which for me would be great as I've got a 351w with headers (my towers are already notched) and spending 45 minutes to an hour just changing plugs.

As for the rearend, there are many ways to go, but this is an interesting setup and I know the owner who has been making this setup for almost 20 years. It is simple and works extremely well, on the street/road racing/drag racing. Here is the site; http://hotrodstohell.net/

Just a lot of choices to choose from, it just depends on what your car is going to used for...........IMHO

the direction you took is really interesting. yeah the shock towers really dont leave much room when you have a 351w. eventually i plan on an engine swap, but for now the 302 is fine.... for now >:] i want a suspension setup suitable for road racing... and be good at it. as in a real competitor for the ever abundant 911's and audis :boxing: i see driving in palos verdes where all the fun roads are around here... also, dont hate me for this, but i want the rigidity to be able to drift safely if i want to. :hide:

but road racing capability is the main application im after.

Well..................road racing...................if that's your direction then the Global West stuff really won't work if you want to chase the 911's. I raced SCCA for a number of years, but only had the money for a Spec Miata and we all know that it is truly a "momentum" car. Picture is of me in the Miata around 2007 at Thunderhill in Northern California, but also raced at Luguna Seca, and Sears Point..................a lot of fun!!!!!!!
If you want to be competitive then the R&C style is the way to go, since you are going to have to put in a full roll cage it would make it alot easier to tie the front to the cage...............and the R&C will give you a rack and pinion and totally get rid of the bump steer issue most Mavericks/Comets have.........................................IMHO
