I have wired it to the original on/off HOT wire for the radio. With the car "not" running and the key on it will play just fine, but with the car running the radio will cut out every now and then. Sometimes more frequent than others. I ran the radio to a constant HOT (battery) and it works just fine...car running or not. Thanks, John.
Sounds like it could also be a grounding issue. Mine did the same thing when I had a bad ground. Try running a piece of 10-2 from the neg post of the battery to the frame. Ground your radio right to the chassis. AC
I have worked with stereos for several years now, and have had this happen a coupla times. It could be a bad ground, but do you have your positive wire spliced anywhere? The connection could be loose. More than likely it's the ground wire though. Do you have a seperate amp/speakers, or just a contained radio? How about fuses? I have been fighting with a fuse for awhile now. It is an inline blade type fuse that is for my radio and amp. Every once in awhile, the radio will cut out, but the fuse is never blown. I finally realized that for some reason, the fuze isn't seating into the fuse box all the time. It vibrates out. So could it be something like that?? Just thinking out loud here. Good Luck with it. Preston
Thanks guys..... I have already replace the volt regulator.....so maybe the alternator??? I do not think its a ground, if it was it would still mess up when I wired to a constant HOT.....right? Preston: Explode amp.....400watt. foozegate 6x9's...4 of them. and a 15 inch explode woofer...... I am just getting started.
I have had amps like that "cut-out" on me...I think due to getting hot....too loud music, too much bass jarring the amp, etc.
Sometimes when I crank up some Nuge and start to sing Wang Dang Sweet Poontang my amp gets too hot and cuts off. You must be listening to some kick ass music. Maybe some Pantera but probably some local Kentucky band like Jackyl with a lot of kick ass bass. Rock me, roll me, Jackyl me off!!!!!!!!!!!!
John, John, John,,,,,,,,,,with your singing skills, whaddya need a radio for? I think the little amp in the radio is getting hot and shutting down. Sounds like you have checked the wiring enough. Dan
Seriously it sounds retarded but just make sure that your on/off 12v is a solid connection. Mine did the same thing. Then I realized that with all the moving of the dash tray in and out i jarred the wires and i reconnected the wires tight and correctly and now its sweet as sugar. I have a 380w amp and a pioneer impp dual coil 10 and its been working great since the beginning of the summer. -Todd
you guys crack me up! Thanks for the tips..... Nick you are right no the $$$, but this time it was "sevenMarieThree" CUMBERSOME......... ROCKS! But you know....you and I are just like Jackyl.......... "lumberjacks" with "dirty little minds" you ROCK bro!
john frist off dont buy cheap sony crap! thats your problem j/k! but i would say ground as well when its cutting, are you driving? you said you hooked up the radio hot... but is the car running? in other words is the envorment the same in both situations? is the car running or not. if the cars aint running the alternator aint the problem. where do you have the power leads and the turn on lead wired to under the dash? most likey most after market radios are red = hot yellow = ign switch hot and this is in your maverick?
yes in the maverick....... I wired with the factory wires.......it would cut out whether the car was running or not....now that it is wired to the constant hot it never cuts out.....whether running or not it does not cut out. I agree....SONY.....but hey, I am a poor boy
if you wire that thing hot it may drain the battery.. i had that happen before. wire it directly to the fuse box. both ign and batt side wires. acutally sony aint that bad.. i love sony for home audio stuff as long as its made in japan.. however in the past... sony CD players for cars wold never play burned cds.. so just my personal beef.
I once had a aftermarket sterio that cut on and off with the blinkers or when I hit the brakes. Turned out the 12v would drop just enough with a load on it to make the radio drop out. I put the switched 12v line to a relay coil and a hot 12v through the relay contacts. Cured the problem.
