The 1971 Mexican Block 302. Because I dont always drink beer, but when I do I drink XXs. Its bullit proof if you do the homework. Theres no shortcut to aspirations. Or just buy an aftermarket block. Man of war ...I hear is good. Dart Makes one. Im sure Merlin can set you up. $$$$$$$$ Im not trying to be sarcastic, but I am saying that dilagence will reward you with profit. Truthfully.....I drink scotch and alot of beer. But only Single Malt scotch.....I confess...and alot of JoseQuervo.
Not sure on the specs between a Mustang and a T Bird HO, but I'd bet there's not a lot of difference in them if any. The "leader", the Mustang in this case, would get the better advertised specs, even if the engines were the same. They want their "leader" to be the best, with the others using the same engine to be slightly less. Just an old advertising trick. I've got a 85 T bird engine in my car. It was a tbi, I changed it to a carb. Also changed the cam.
I am also not positive about the t-bird, but Im thinking it got the non-ho engine like the crown vics. But the lat 80s early 90s Lincoln Mark VII did get the same HO 5.0. they can be bought cheaper then a fox body mustang alot ot the time. and they arent as quickly picked over when at a junkyard.
I think you're right. I have the top end (sadly no cam, a roller won't fit in my block) from an '87, the one with the full port-injected EFI intake (with a "5.0 HO" nameplate) and the better-than-stock E7 heads. I'm gonna get the E7's milled a little to bump up compression and put larger injectors in the EFI intake since I have a MegaSquirt computer all set up. I think with the top end and a Comp 268H (and changing the E7 springs for flat-tappet ones) will make a nice, reliable, fast-as-hell daily driver.
