Anyone have any experience with buying a new replacement ac condenser? I would like to replace mine with one that is as close as possible to the original one. Mine still works but looks old and beat. Since Im tearing down most of the stuff under the hood for a clean up I though I would relpace the condenser and dryer while it was out of the car. I will be using R12 when I charge it back up. Thanks ... Bob

I have sent two old ones of mine (condensors) as well as the dryers to Classic Auto Air and had them rebuilt. Very pleased. Look very nice and ready to bolt on.

I bought a reproduction condenser from Classic Auto Air that fit very well. They also refurbished the dryer but Rock Auto sells a replacement dryer that is supposed to fit and almost does.

Yeah, a number of repo parts I've bought ALMOST fit. No complaints 'cause its good someone is making stuff for our cars, even if they're not EXACTLY like original.

Just had to bend the mounting bracket a little and open up the hole in the radiator support where the hose goes thru because the fitting on top of the dryer is about 1/2" shorter than the original. I was OK with enlarging the hole because it lets some more air flow thru the trans cooler that's mounted in front of the dryer. The repo dryer cost about half what I paid to get the original refurbished and shipped two ways.

The condenser was, however, a direct bolt in -- no mods necessary.

Without looking I recall $75 to $100 for the condensor....and $50 to $60 for the dryer.

Where did u put the horn/s? I put my dryer behind the support; my horn remain in/near the stock placement.

Original location of the horn was on the driver's side apron. I installed dual horns a little lower to make room for the radiator overflow. If you look closely, you can see the horns under the overflow tank.

Thanks, The only thing is my condenser has plastic wire ties holding parts together and I don't think that was OEM. I might be better off replacing it with a new one. I wonder if any of the Mustang ones are close. The Ford parts catalog shows the Maverick part is a different number than any of the Mustangs.

The one I sent them had bent fins, fins falling out, etc. Came back perfect.

Like JSArnold mentioned, watch out on dryers. 15 years ago, I had a very tough time finding one that would bolt up, and it was not set up like the original. I think we finally made the third one I bought work.

Bob , I just finished this complete a/c job on my Comet let me tell you BE CAREFUL nothing for a mustang is even close I bought a after market condenser from outfit in California after tons of research they were the only guys really listing a true dimension one with correct inlet and outlet only to find out it did not come close to bolting up yes it can be modified to work. Also oem units are plate and fin style and all after markets are tube and fin, plate and fin are way more efficient at condensing but easier to clog if something goes wrong or if system has not been flushed. Now for dryers all mustangs use a #8 fitting on both ends maverick/comets at least my 72 v8 used a #6 on one and #8 on the other end. I was so not happy with the after market cond I searched and found a NOS ford then decided I was not keeping the Comet so made the after market work so I have NOS one I will sell you I paid 180.00 for it if your interested I can send pictures if you like the part number is D1DZ-19712-A or YJ-21 motorcraft let me Brian.
