Just got home, and snagged a quick picture. Does it look like a high performance exhaust manifold? http://www.mre-books.com/sa69/sa69_7.html
@Coolvettes --- sounds like that woulda been a mean ford. haha @olerodder --- looks the same, the casting numbers I could not see on either side, theres a 4 digit number right on the facing thats bold but no C017-0000-00 or D702-0000 type digits like all the other parts. ...but yea when we brought it home I asked dad if we should run headers for the build and he said - these are tucked in real good and should fit the mav better and I don't see headers doing much more then these. lol. I guess he was right
thanks for the link As far as the fitment issues discussed in that thread, I think it'll be alright. I have auto linkage which should be easy to avoid, the firewall is far enough away, I don't see much in the way of the setup. I've also got a buddy at exhaust shop in town who is one of the best in the state (bar none) at custom exhaust setups & pipe bending. If he can't send duals to the back then no one can.
I've got two of those, they're pretty common. The passenger side though I'll bet is the run of the mill, very restrictive log manifold.
Valve covers removed, rockers and everything look clean so far. Will unbolt heads one day and dismantle. Intake removed, looks 'heavily' ported near all the ports and carb flange. Many humps were leveled and smoothed out. Unbolted (broke loose) driver exhaust manifold, its been sitting in pb blast, still wasn't easy . broke it loose though These exhaust manifolds from the looks were heavily machined as well before install. I can see grinding marks far down inside, much of the walls removed. As far as the guy grinding could reach from the looks. These should cleanup alright though, would you guys paint them? I doubt manifold paint would hold up myself. @ baddad457 --- The pass is different as you said. didnt take picture but this is pretty much whats on it
Those are 289 Hi-Po manifolds. Good stuff. Might as well use em, if they've been ported, the porting destroys any value to collectors.
If they're ported more than likely they were used for some sort of racing class where headers are prohibited....Before repops, those things were like looking for a needle in a haystack
Whoever had this engine back before my time definitely used it for racing. that can be good or bad i suppose Rocker arms arent OEM and I'm sure I'll run into previous head work they did. The main caps look to be taller than stock and Billet steel
@ Baddad457 --- haha I aint worried about those guys running 289 K code engines looking for stock equipment @ wardf --- Mine has c3 then a d1 or 0 1 hard to tell, i'd say your right though
