Hey there got a question for some for ya guys/gals: My 74 mav fuel gage reads empty all the time. The needle does move a little when I fill it up and shes pretty empty. Now what could be the issue? Is there a floatation "bobber" thing in the tank or would replacing the fuel pump fix it? Thank for advice!

Remove the sender and check it electrically with an Ohmmeter. 73-10 ohms is the spec. Remove the float from the sender and shake it. If it feels heavy or like it has liquid, replace it. You can still get it from Ford, unless you find one aftermarket cheaper. I just bought one the other day for an old Ranger and it was only about $12. part # is C0AZ-9202-B.

The wiring, gauge or voltage regulator could also be at fault, so check it out in a logical order. I use resistors from Radio Shack and jumper wires to simulate the resistance at full and empty to verify the integrity of the components other than the sender.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. A guy at NAPA also told me to check the ground wire so i'm going to begin checking things. Nice pro pic, love the color. Thanks again, Keith.

That was a problem with mine. Don't know about your 74 but my 70's sender is grounded through the gas tank, no separate ground wire. I soldered a 1/4" push-on electrical tab to the outside of the round pickup/sender so I could plug on a ground wire.
