I wanna swap my 200 inline 6 for something with more power and a more aggressive sound, but I don't want a v6 or v8 because it's my daily driver, and with money tight, I can't be hitting the gas stations twice a week. I do however still want something w/ a carburetor.

    got any ideas for me?

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
2.3L 4 cylinder, the ones from the 80s not the pinto one.

They have a bunch of aftermarket parts available, as well as carburetor intakes.

As for the sound, you're never going to a V8 sound from an inline motor. But you can make them sound deep with a single 3" pipe. But you'll wanna run a resonator along with a good turbo muffler to keep it from rasping too much.

How about a Taurus SHO engine? If moneys tight, just stick with what you have, or sell your car and buy something with a 4cyl.

That can be achieved with spending NO money and leaving your existing engine in place. A few holes drilled in the exhaust will take care of that.

    O.K. You don't want a V-6 or a V-8, and money is tight.

I really think the amount of money you spend to gain any horsepower would have been better spent on actual gasoline.....and you will be money ahead.

My suggestion: Keep the motor you have and tune it for gas milage, not for power. Maybe not what you wanted to hear...but it is my advice.

    thats a tough one.

You should keep the motor like mentioned. the 200 is reliable and you should be getting respectable power/fuel economy.

What kind of gas mileage does a good running 200 get? Just curious i'm getting 20+ in town and near 24mpg on the highway with my 5.0.I realize the 5 speed is giving me the hwy mileage but still 1:1 in town.Definately alot better than my V10 f250 LOL!!!

The straight six is sweet, don't pull it. Add a nice header and upgrade your exhaust system and an open element filter if you want sound on a budget, plus a few more ponies. If you are handy, go low boost turbo (say 5 psi) using your existing carb, exhaust manifold, and fuel pump, no intercooler and a duraspark 2 dizzy. If you size your turbo correctly and TUNE your carb, you will see no reduction in fuel economy, possibly even more, that is, if you can keep your foot out of the go go pedal. Heck, my old set-up and 250 is wasting away...

Have you ever looked at the fordsix forums or classic inlines? Lots of help with your six. Good luck.

The no money thng is the killer. I've got much better mileage with a carburated 5.0 witha B303 cam than with any of the 6 cyl cars I've had. Derek is right and I was getting over 20MPG with a C-4, I bet the OD of the T-5 does help. I never got 20 with any of the 6cyl. cars. But ......then there is the money thing, tune as best as you can and drive it until you can do something different.

The 200 should be getting at least 20 mpg's, the motor is capable of low 20's with a 3 speed auto.

My setup... 250 straight six. Low miles. Tuned and gone thru by yours truly. Never see's highway driving, C4 transmission. The 250 pushes 19-20 mpg babying the gas pedal. I hit 17-18mpg's driving normal for a week.

I agree, the more gears the better fuel economy, theres a reason they use 5, 6, & 7 speed automatics now-a-days.

The reason for the 5-6 and up transmission gears is cause they're building the engines with a short power band to target a specific mpg range. You don't need 7 gears in the transmission for an engine that's got a long powerband (lots of torque) My wife's 08 T&C minivan is an example of this. The mileage is great(20-24 highway), but forget about towing anything with it, attempt that and the mileage pluges to 7-9 mpg due to the narrow torque band and 6 speed transmisson. My 99 SD F250 with a 7.3 diesel gets 20 mpg highway empty and 12-15 towing, it weighs about double what the T&C does, so in effect the mileage is nearly double the T&C's.

if you want a motorswap thats still in ford family thatll get you better power and mpgs then the metioned 2.3 or 2.3 turbo is the way to go..

or you can stick with the current 200 and add an aod transmission and say like a 3.40-3.70ish rear gear.

or you could install a chinese/ebay or masterpower(brazil or precision usa? turbo on current engine and mod stock exhaust for a t3/4 turbo flange.
