Hey everyone.. Mymaverick is giving me some headache. Its a 71 302 v8. It has a carter afb performance 625cfm 4 barrel carburetor. In mornings it takes a while to start. Ive tried pumping once before start and nothing. Ive tried pumping gas twice and nothing. Takes about 10 seconds of cranking and constant pedal pumping for it to start. Once it warms up if I turn it off and immediately turn it back on it will start right up. But it does throw a cloud of smoke wheb it starts. If I turn it off after driving it and let it sit for about 30 minutes, again I have to crank iy for about 8 to 10 seconds for it to start, but without pumping the gas... What can be the problem? What can I do to have it start rite up all the time, whether cold or already warmed up? I have a buddy that has a 71 impala and he doesnt have that problem at all. His car always starts at the turn of the key. Can I have my maverick be like that or is hard starting just a problem that I will have to put up with on the maverick? Please help...

a weak ignition coil can cause this. you may want to try swapping it out or testing the internal resistances and seeing if they are in the specs for what ever coil you have.
