78' Honda Hobbit, I got it running for first time in god knows how long. She's a retired military moped with military decals/tags still attached :thumbs2:. From San Fransisco.

---The problem is... the Hobbit will idle with the choke on.
---The Hobbit will die when I switch to choke off, but it will run when reved up with choke off.
---With the choke just slightly past half way the Hobbit will run and rev freely.

This is a 2 stroke 49cc motor, the carb was cleaned and no matter how much adjusting I do I get the same symptoms.

    Any ideas? :hmmm:

I just played around with it some more...I agree, the carb has to come off. I dont know how to clean it any better though, she soaked for days

Honda built the thing though, where the entire engine needs unbolted and shifted to remove the carb

maybe check the reed valve when you pull the carb off.

More than likely a 2 stroke that small wont have a reed valve. It sounds like the pilot jet is clogged, I've found the easiest way to clean them out is by sticking a staple through it or any thing else that will fit and blowing it out with compressed air.

I didn't dismount the motor today to check the carb. I fooled around with the speedometer cable which is another pain, everything is mechanical and isn't lining up just right.:cussing:

I did however use my air compressor to blow 90psi through the idle mixture screw hole. She ran at idle after that haha...but still wont take gas.

    She'll get there.

Picked me up an ''old school'' full face helmet too :bananaman

Yea I'll post some pictures and maybe a video here soon.

I've had people telling me to run a top tank, repaint, run turn signals, and this and that, but I plan to leave this moped as original as possible, you don't see many anymore. I may swap to a chambered muffler though as they do free up power/fuel economy on these little 2 strokes

Hahaha, I have a friend that rides one of those everywhere...It's the funniest thing to see, considering he rides it more than his electraglide.

    * Update *

I dismounted the motor, removed the carburetor. Turns out the bowl nudged the float & was nearly blocking the jet entirely. I ran air through everything and mounted back up.

The Ped started, idled, and I took it around the block

Alls left is a Proma performance exhaust and a good washing

I'll try & post a vid when I get the proma hooked up, she should hit 40+mph which will make a good around town cruiser.

Been riding the old brute to work (about 1.5 mile ride) and for cruising. Does really good on gas, I'd say hovering around 90 mpg running 32:1 synthetic mix.

I installed two extra reflectors out back (can't hurt), ran a center top bar that I plan to run saddlebags or bike storage over. Also installed the proma circuit exhaust.

Was able to get the speedometer working with a new speedo cable.
