You will never see a "Repop" with H&M part number on them. This is the real deal because at one time I owned the intake and motor that came out of wreck'd 64 Cobra (it was actually going to go into my first Maverick, a plane jane 70 with six/3spd/white/blue interior)....................Dan Case now owns the intake. As for the polished Cobra letters............I did that because I thought it look neat at the time. I would bet there are fewer than 20 of these manifolds left today...............making them extremely rare..........wish I still had both! Looks can be deceiving..............but it's all in the part numbers.
hey this is matt.its the first time i've been on since you were here.this is fun to read pretty cool to watch what was dead and people were telling me to scrap come back to life.i've got an old holly four barrel around here that you can have if i can find it.it'll need rebuilt but there cheep and easy to do.if you want it let me know.dont know the numbers on it so i cant tell you what size till i find it.it was nice meeting you and your dad and nice to see young people taking up the hobby......matt:Handshake
Just re-found my old thread. I just bought the other day on ebay a 4 barrel 'spreadbore' removed from a 427 in hopes to use on the 302. Anyone have good or bad to tell on this carburetor. I've read rebuild guides and have an idea for a cam and valve springs to go with and plan to machine out the exhaust ports heavily on the heads. WD40 has a new product that will strip rust and clean old manifolds or anything rusted that should work wonders on mine. Based on the cylinder walls I think .30 overbore shouldnt be necessary, .10 over should be safe in my opinion but we'll see down the road. I've been browsing for any good deals for a vintage dual points distributor or duraspark setup. If anyone comes across one or the other for a reasonable price let me know. @ Matt, thanks. good to hear from you man, I sent you a PM.
Your either going to have to get a spreadbore to squarebore adapter and modify it to flip up side down or get a squarebore carb. As far as I know no one make a spreadbore manifold for a SBF.
So, what kind of carburetor is it, a Holley 4175 spreadbore, if it is it's a 650cfm. So, what kind of heads do you have and what do you plan to do with them? If you are looking for a dual point, I'd look at the "old" Mallory as the new ones are made in China. As for the bore, it all depends on how much "taper" you have in the cylinder walls...................if you've got more than .010..........you will probably be going .020/.030 over. I would think the most common is .030 and also may be cheaper. The one thing that helps a SBF make HP are the heads, and no matter how much you try and help the stock heads...............well............they just don't make much................I actually tried on a 289 HiPro over 30 years with a very nice (and today very rare) set of Crane Cams reworked 1969 351w heads that were taken to the max..................but if you don't care about making big HP, then put a plan together and do the polishing and porting yourself...............it will be fun.
Leave the dual points alone. Any Duraspark will run rings around it today. As for the spreadbore, what exactly is it? There were more than one spreadbore made, including those by Holley, Rochester, and Carter. And not all in the same sizes. Holley alone made these in vacuum sec and mechanical sec versions.

The heads are factory cast iron. Yea I've browsed at the old Mallorys but the price doesn't justify themselves over a electronic setup. I'll just keep an eye out for a good deal on duals or electronic. Yea I kind of expect the machinest to say .30 over, and that would be fine for me as well. Yea i dont plan to make a race engine just a reliable small block with some power to it. I figure polish along the intake and heavy porting on the exhaust end. I should be able to free up some ponies and improve flow. @baddad --- I've heard alot of complaints on mustang forums about dual points so idk. I'll let you guys know what the carb model is when I get it. If I had to guess though I'd say its a Carter. She was on ebay for $22 complete, so I figured it wouldn't hurt. If I can't use it I'll just re-sell or hold on to it.

Ok, now the Motorcraft makes a little sense.............I would guess the carb is a Motorcraft 4300D............did not come on 427's as they came with Holleys.................but the 4300 came on 351C's, 429's, and many other Ford engines. I haven't seen one for a long time..........just not a popular carb except with restorers. As for the heads, you really should put screw-in studs at least............you don't want any problems pulling the pressed in studs out...............could really ruin a good day...............and a motor............IMHO
The only spread bore carb found on any 427 was the Q-Jet. Carter's spreadbore was called the Thermoquad, it's got a plastic mid body. Awesome performers, but again, like the Q-Jet needlessly complicated and hard to rebuild. These were std equipment on Mopars around the late 60's to mid 70's
Came in today. No numbers anywhere on the carburetor. Just says motorcraft. I've held some 4 barrels before, but this things a behemoth. ***sorry about picture quality
Well, you may not like what I am going to say, but this is a Motorcraft #4350, and was only used for a few years like 70 to 76 or something like that. It is a spreadbore, but totally different than the Rochester spread bore and I doubt you can find any adpater to make it work on a SBF 4brl intake without having it custom made. I am not even sure you can get a rebuild kit any longer.......................and I think it mostly came on Ford 460's..............personally I hope you didn't pay much because it may make a good wall hanger. Although if you do plan to put a 460 in Maverick it will work without any mod's and the stock 4brl intake..........................This carburetor never found its way onto a 427 Chevy or Ford. You may want to do some searches to find out more information.
