does anybody have pics of where they mounted the inline fuel pump on there efi 5.0 swap and is a pre filter 100% a have to or will a fuel filter after the pump be fine. and to turn the pump on do i run the hot wire to the ignition to turn the pump on..lol
As close to the tank as possible, and use a relay when you wire the pump , the efi harness should have fuel pump wiring provisions (with relay) if you used a oem harness
your 40 year old gas tank has all kinds of stuff in it. how long do you think the pump will last sucking that stuff up? the stock fuel pick up uses a filter sock on the end of it. they are usually rotted off and need to be replaced. so if you choose to do the frame mount using the stock fuel pick up, at least replace the filter sock on the end of it. you should have some sort of baffle in the tank around the pick up or the gas will slosh away from the pick up during turns when the level in the tank is low. this usually happens around 1/2 thank.
I made the mistake of not using a prefilter temporarily with my nice Summit pump... and mounted it on the driver's side shock tower. It pumps the fuel but I will be moving it to the frame and installing a prefilter because this pump is noisy now, I think due to running dry trying to suck air and picking up crap from the 40-year-old gas tank like Bryant said. I suggest doing it right the first time, install a prefilter, and make sure you use an inertial fuel pump shutoff switch. This cuts the power to the fuel pump in the event of a crash, I pulled mine from a Fox body Mustang, and use it in line with a fuel pump relay.
ok so can the pre fuel filter be the same as the filter thats going after my fuel pump.and what color is the wire on my harness that i run the wire from my fuel pump to and where is it on my harness ...its a stock 5.0 harness.
I am using a larger, 100 micron pre-pump filter since small stuff won't mess up the pump and it flows better. After the pump I'm using a 30-micron filter to make sure injectors don't get clogged and such.
