So I was updating my mom last night on how my sprint restoration is going (she bought one new and had it until it rusted out). She mentioned that hers had a hood ornament that was broken off by a friend in 1974. I've searched the forum and can't come up with anything do my question is was there ever a hood ornament put on mavericks? The only other explanation I can come up with is that it was a dealer added thing but that doesn't seem right to me. She's positive it was there.

There was a Maverick hood ornament, but NEVER on a Sprint. The hood ornament came later on the LDO cars (like 1976-1977 era).

Well, that's a new one on me. Never heard of or saw a Maverick hood ornament. Have any pics, Craig? I'm curious.

I seen chrome badge on the later Mavericks but I wouldn't call it a hood ornament.

I would bet if she had a sprint with a hood ornament, it was an aftermarket add-on. JC Whitney comes to mind.

I agree, except that she is sure that is was on the car when she bought it. She also says how hard it was to wax around it and the details of when/how it broke off are pretty specific. Oh well, I hate to tell her that she is wrong but I guess that is what sons are for. Maybe a picture of it will pop up.

I also knew when I posted this that Craig would be the one with the first answer.

    Thanks Craig

Surely your mom has pics of her car somewhere.check all albums and ask family members if they may have a pic or two of the car. You never know what will pop up.

Here are some scanned pictures from my parents wedding day. In the one picture you can almost see the complete hood. There doesn't seem to be any evidence of having a hood ornament. One other interesting thing is the lack of a pinstripe on the trunk lid. My mom has no idea what happened with that either.

Sprint with vinyl roof? Never saw one of those. Cool.

    You are welcome.

Looks like the grill emblem is missing in the one picture. Maybe that is what she is thinking of.

I'm with Dan .... vinyl top on a Sprint? I'll bet that was a pretty low number car in a Marti report. Too bad it is gone.
