Ed Davis' new car (fan2488). He has a baddass car.

I have driven many fast cars and motorcycles, but squeezing between the roll cage and racing seat of his new car, and figuring out if his transmission is reverse or forward manual, etc. And testing out his converter in the driveway.

Anyway, I was given permission to take it "around the block". I got it onto the street, gave it a little gas but despite the 2500 rpms, it barely moved forward. So I floored it and it didn't move. But both of those rear tires just started smoking and the engine screamed!

So I let off, and got into it a little more slowly and it took off.

Turned the first corner, and laid into it again about 75% throttle, and got into second gear. Still not going fast, since the street tires were having no chance at traction.

From there on, I figured the cops would be close behind, so I took it easy until I got back to his garage.

So, my observations: Engine "appears" to be stock. Cast iron non-GT heads, maybe e7s? Engine looks mild. Rear gears are supposed to be 4.11, but I am thinking higher, 4.56 or more? Stall feels like 4000 rpms.

So how much of this tire-burning power is from the engine, and how much is just multiplied by the rear and converter?

I want to get my tires to break loose like that on demand, but not have the lag at idle to 3000 rpms. What stall converter do I need?

Dont you have any gear in your car Scoop?

The 4:11's make for a ton of tire smoke with street tires. Some converter helps but I think the big difference your feeling is the gear. My car will lay waste to my 255's on the street. My engine is pretty basic and my stall isnt very aggressive. Mine is suppose to have a 3500 stall but its closer to 3000 if I flash it. It depends on the powertrain and the conv build as to what would work in your car. I would phone the conv company you choose and they will build what you need for your car. I had a 3500 in my last car from george e reynolds and it had a lot of slip. I didn't like it on the street. I dont know who built the one on my car now but it works perfect on the street.
Converters can get really involved as Im sure the guys with the race experience on here will tell you.
The difference between stock gears and 4:11's is night and day. Its a trade off on the street though. You lose the HWY speed with out OD.

:chirp: This is really over my head on all but the basics. I would rather have my tires do that , than loose my hearing from a POS glass pack muffler. Now if you know which muffler, doesn't sound "REDNECK" aka cherry bomb rattle bomb, to combine with a set up that will smoke my tires on demand ... I am all ears :mischeif:

Stiff rear suspension, loose converter, and a deep gear

That being said spinning ain't winning

    Scoop,

    3Xs on the gear .... :thumbs2:

My combo is still fairly tame .... 351W,cam, small 4 bbl, 2300 stall C4 street/strip ... but with a 4:62 locked gear in it, almost hopeless to get traction on the street. Not the right gear for the car, but was "almost free" at the time.

Take it to our well-prepped 1/8th mile track, though, and it was a blast.

I finally found a set of 3:55s for it it, and can't wait to try them out. I bet it ETs pretty close, but MPHs a lot better. Poor thing was wheezing before the finish line. I need some good heads on this motor ....

I am running a 3.80 gear, simply because I didn't want to lose all of my highway ability.

Mine has stock converter, (1800?) and mini spool and it will not just light the tires up with my 255 wide tires. It will launch pretty hard though, with just a little wheel spin. So I guess with my current setup, I have the best balance. If I changed either the gear or converter, I would likely be able to burn these tires off quickly.

But I tell you, it sure feels nice just gassing it and having the rubber peel off.

I am not sure what he is going to have to do to his car to get it to hook. It is a dangerous beast right now. It is almost impossible to just "drive" from a stop. By the time the converter catches, he has 300-350 hp hitting the nearly still tires, and REEEEEEE!!!! He is currently looking at a tighter converter, and I think that will help him a bunch.

Maybe a soft set of slicks, with 12 psi in them?

His rear suspension feels pretty stiff, like stock or stiffer. Might need to loosen that up a bit as well.

Wait till you strap in something that makes double the power and does that on race tires

I have 255 wides.. so guess , next would be to change up my gear, and converter as I have no clue what those are right now..lol

Or I could just put in a loud sound system with some recordings of big engine cars and blast it....whichever comes first..
I should mention I really hate my neighbor yelling at me every time I leave my drive way lol

OR you could just buy my car. Then when ever he starts saying something to you, you could just mash the accelerator.:drive:

    Ed, those weren't all nice.

That car is DANGEROUS for the street. I always thought mine was iffy, but yours is an outright menace to any street safety.

I would love to find something halfway between what you have and what I have. Tricky on the street, but not outright dangerous to the owner.

Maybe swap convertors or rear ends? It might even us out a bit.

But I don't think my 8" rear can handle your stall, and vice versa.

If I had the cash, I would snatch your car up and mix and match to get what I want into my car...

And, for what it is worth, "mashing Ed's accelerator" does nothing. The car does not move forward. It just spins both rear tires until smoke appears and/or you switch gears, then it just makes more smoke.

His car just will NOT grab and take off. It just burns rubber, at least on street tires.

    THAT is what scares me.

I am used to a little burning of rubber as the car starts to lurch forward, but his does not lurch forward.

:49: Yeah.... don't want to die pissing off the neighbor. I want the happy medium myself, smoking tires.. grabs and launch's. You know wont die when pissing off the Jerk of a neighbor:dancing:
The thing about him that really annoys me is he's been my neighbor for 24 years and has never even so much been pleasant once you know wave, smile, nod you head be a human.... then I get my dream car and starts yelling and flipping me the bird..telling me how much of P.O.S. my car is. So of course now I feel its my duty to Piss him off... he must need it in his life, or he wouldn't of chosen to come out of his shell in such a hostile manner towards my dream car!!!
:grpnanadance: Time to get annoyed old man!
