the other day i was removing the interior of my 70 maverick because im going to patch up the floor and i found poisonous spiders in it. they were red widows they are from the south i live in the north i dont know how they got there. what do you think is the best way to get rid of them?
Watch some of those bug bombs! They will cloud up the face of your instrument cluster and may even cause the fuel gauge and speedometer to seize! I'd remove it first. They can also discolor the headliner. Read it carefully for anything about damaging certain plastics. I never heard of a " red widow ", but I'm no expert on spiders. Where I live spiders are a part of life. You just get used to them! Anyway, I would suggest getting a spray that is specifically for spiders and spot spray them first. This way you won't have to remove your entire interior for a bug bomb! Edit: I just looked them up and yes there are red widows and they come from Florida. Never saw one myself, but according to the article they're not much to worry about. No reported bitings to humans. I wouldn't want them in my car either, though, but I thought this would ease your mind a bit! By the way all spiders are poisonous, it just depends on the type of poison and the mood of the spider as to how dangerous the bite can be.
Hairspray will cause spiders to suffocate. I use starting fluid as a universal bug killer in the garage.
What ever you do be sure to be safe! My father got bit by a black widow once and it was not fun at all. He ended up in the hospital for a whole week then couldn't walk for 2 weeks after that. That's not actually true, they can and will bite. But they're not very poisonous at all, there was a mythbusters episode on it where one of their host manages to get bitten by one. It's a neat episode http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholcus_phalangioides http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythBusters_(2004_season)#Daddy_Long-Legs
Black widows are no joke. Smash 'em all! Red widows I've never heard of. Our bug guy basically told us that we have to get rid of the food (other insects) the spiders eat, or they will never go away. They pretty much have to be sprayed directly to kill them.
That's what's wrong with higher learning today, professors that teach BS that's irrellevant and contrary to real life. Tenured positions should be outlawed.
