Woke up Wednesday morning to a view of my '74 Maverick (Ford Lime Yellow) looking like it had been in an 80's horror movie. Lot's of reddish brownish splotches and drips all over it. At first I thought it was a very sick bird (I had parked under a tree in the front yard.) but then I found a busted-open quart sized plastic bag with a little bbq sauce left in it. No, I did not taste it. And no, I have no idea why someone would want to "sauce" my car. I didn't even know that there was such a thing....
I had to head to work but first I gave it a good rinsing. When I got home that afternoon I noticed that everywhere the sauce had been there was a sticky mess. So I gave it a really good wash with soap and water. Let it dry, it's still there. Didn't touch it.
So, my question to you guys, what can I try to take it off without messing up the paint?
    Thanks,
    CommieHook
P.S. Here are a couple pics. Nasty, huh?

If it takes that much work to clean it, or maybe even damages the paint, its vandalism and I'd file a police report.

Oh man, that sucks! I would be so pissed! My brother used to do auto detailing years ago, I'll see if he has any thoughts.

File a report and try a good cleaner wax, would first try keeping paint wet with the cleaner wax. Good luck!

Rubbing alcohol. Dab it on the sauce. Then either rinse it or wipe off with washing cloth.
Mineral spirits can and will damage your weather stripping, so if you go that route..be careful.
BBQ sauce is usually honey, or molasses's based thus the super sticky mess.

I have seen all kinds of things done out of spite and youthful stupidity to others property. We had a 12 year old bastard child who spray painted cars in our neighborhood over a 5 month period till he got caught.
now that was a pain to remove from cars... but rubbing alcohol got that off too with some elbow grease and car cloth. 4 times.. he got my car.
Not sad to say he got shot, last year and died. I expected it, by then he had moved on to grand theft and home invasions.

Do it right the first time. Wash the car with Dawn soap and water. FYI This will take off any wax! Next buy a clay bar, and clay bar the car. The clay will pick up anything the Dawn soap didn't. Then wax the car again. If needed you can use a rubbing compound before the wax.

I love my car...but not that much. Clay bar and waxing.. Dang man! :D
89cent bottle of rubbing alcholol removed spray paint off my car, 4 times.
Also eggs, soda, finger nail polish, and paint balls.
Still have 1 ounce left in it or so.
And my car looks fine, no remains of the vandalism. Went threw more car towels than I cared too though.. not to mention elbow grease and time.

Around here, the Racoons would lick it off before you even knew it was there....
Seriously, for what it is, I'd use some dish soap, then a good cleaner wax. Some people just don't like others to have nice stuff, and their jealousy gets the best of them sometimes, nothing you can really do but move on.

Took accumulated tree sap and other unpleasant substances and stains from my paint with Dawn and a weak bleach solution. Just rubbed it down with that over and over till the stains disapeared, then rinsed it really well. Course that was the paint job on the car when I bought it and was sorta crappy looking anyway. Don't know if I'd try the same on a new or better paint job. However, it did not seem to have any detrimental effect on the paint. Didn't turn cloudy or anything, or fade. Actually brightened it up quite a bit. Admittedly, the car had been sitting under a tree for an unkown period of time, so barbeque sauce might have brightened it up at that point!

I have found that large fairly unfriendly dogs surrounding my car in the backyard (or anything else I have for that matter) prevents all sorts of vandalism, theft, etc. One Chow Chow, one Golden Retriever/Chow mix (95 lbs!) and an Austrailian Shepard who isn't big but thinks she is, car in the back yard and no problems. don't even bother to lock my back doors.:taz:
