Here is a picture of my car with headman long tube headers on it. I like the stance of the car but the headers are only 2 1/4 inches of the ground. I was thinking about putting shorties on it and was wondering what brand fits the best. If you have pictures of yours that would be great . I just want to suck the exhaust up closer to the bottom of the car so i can drive it without killing ants.......
I have Doug Thorley shorties. No issues with PS but I used some header wrap to protect the rubber boot on the ram. Bell crank is gone so not sure if column shift is a problem. Left exhaust pipe got a dent for full travel of the Pitman arm. Driver's side of bell housing was clearanced some to make room for 2.5" exhaust pipe. I'm very happy with the DT shorties.
I Have Dougs also. They work, is about all I can say about them. I miss my long tube headers but dont miss the scraping the ground on every bump. I'd like to give these a try some day http://www.fordpowertrain.com/347step.htm. They are supposed to keep the tubes up between the frame rails on Mustangs. Might work on the Mav as well. But you may have to notch the shock towers to do it.
I ran long tube Headmans on my 74 for years, I never realized how beat up they got, until I pulled the engine from the car.
Just wondering......could you run a taller motor mount to raise the motor up and pull up the long tubes ? Just a thought . I love the sound of my motor and really don't want to change the sound.
you can also have your set modified and have a decent merge collector put in while you're at it. taller motor mounts might snowball into a bigger problem, like drivetrain angle.
